Re: Livery assumptions / expectations for 2016!
Craig is normally very reliable. He's not one for spreading far fetched rumours. Not saying he's always correct, but he is most of the time as far I have seen.

If they get the proportions of red, white and silver correct, it could be a stunner. If not, it could be a dogs dinner.
It's exciting to think they may go a bit retro though.

Re: Open cockpit: Essential element of F1?
If this really will destroy the sport, it amazes me that so many companies that rely almost solely on their participation in the sport would look seriously at a closed cockpit.
I'm happy that they may change their mind, but they are taking it seriously.
So should we (imo)

Re: Open cockpit: Essential element of F1?
As I have mentioned in other posts, the teams and FIA seem very keen to investigate the possibilities. This is why I believe we should give the idea a chance before making wild assumptions that the sport will end if it happens. The amount of 'traditions' that have been removed from the sport is alm...

Re: Open cockpit: Essential element of F1?
OK, rather than responding to a variety of posts over two threads, (please can they be merged mods?), I've decided to put my point across in one thread. Firstly, I am not correct, I am not fully in the knowledge about the technicalities about altering the cars to have a closed cockpit, what safety i...

I'm not arguing against your personal view. I understand that is different from mine. I'm using examples that show big changes have happened before without the sport collapsing. Front engine rear drive, gone, V12's, gone. The list goes on. Personally, I'm more concerned about the apparent move towa...

We haven't removed stairs, but over the years, the surface have changed and hand rails are commonplace. We also add stair gates for the safety of young. Correct. Therefore, we have addressed safety issues. F1 are thinking about addressing driver safety in another way. F1 are thinking about removing...

Regarding the question about limiting speed to 100mph, well that's somewhat over the top. If it was needed because going faster put drivers at risk and there was no other choice, it would have to be a rule. The fact is, we're not in that position. However, teams and the FIA seem to think cockpit co...

130,000 miles in a 156. Biggest problem was to replace front wishbones after about 120,000.
Other than that, nothing else went wrong, ever.
My 1972 Spider 2000 veloce was a dream to drive and own. Sadly I then had children!!!!!!!

Can we stop this 'definition' point of view. The teams are seriously considering covered cockpits, therefore own cockpits can be an absolute definition of the sport. They can re-define the sport, yes. They cannot UN-define it. But it was not defined very well in the first place. Therefore we're onl...

I think to be honest, if the drivers themselves are calling for this, then I'm happy to go with it. We can complain about the looks, but it's not our lives at risk. Be careful about what you ask for! I'd be disappointed to see open cockpits go, but their going wouldn't fundamentally change the essence of F1. Open wheels and open cockpits - the essence of F1. Re: Open cockpit: Essential element of F1?
It is vital. It lets you see and get a feel for the human being fighting for track position rather then just getting the perception of the vehicle they are piloting. The spectacle lost something when the cockpit sides were (rightly) raised in 1996 and would lose even more with a closed canopy. With...

I'm getting to think it is time for a clean sheet redesign and rethink of what we want or get from F1. Yes the 94 cars were as dangerous as those in 1984. And why would anyone not want safer helmets? Having a tougher helmet is hardly going to detract or change the nature of the sport. I think a canopy capable of deflecting wheel/tyre assemblies, or entire cars travelling at up to 300km/h, would likely be very heavy. Possibly a lot heavier than the Halo. Pretty much true.
