Re: Driver(s) of the day - 2022 Monaco Grand Prix

I voted Checo and Gasly, forgetting that Checo also escaped a penalty for crossing the pit entry line. Wish I’d only voted Gasly. It was Max not Checo that crossed the pit lane exit and didnt get punished. Checo would have definitely got punished for it. I haven’t seen the footage of Checo doing it...

Re: 2022 Monaco Grand Prix Race Thread

The RB drivers won’t be getting the penalties that are black and white per Tsunoda last year: 1. Penalising Perez would hand the win to Sainz, who has yet to win a race. It was his post race podium that set the precedent for not changing a podium after a race, and if they did penalise Perez he would...

I voted Checo and Gasly, forgetting that Checo also escaped a penalty for crossing the pit entry line. Wish I’d only voted Gasly. This morning I posted that it would be sad if Alonso wasn’t on the grid next year, at the moment I wouldn’t care. I knew he didn’t like Hamilton but had thought that bein...

Re: Should the Monaco GP stay on the calendar forever?

At a minimum each driver should be sent out individually for their quali laps at a circuit like Monaco, that way you can’t be left out of place in the way that Gasly et al were through no fault of their own. I found it unacceptable that Tsunoda started ahead of his teammate when he was the one that ...

Re: Should the Monaco GP stay on the calendar forever?

Maybe I’d have enjoyed it more with some better race direction. Ferrari’s mess up was only entertaining if you were Red Bull and I was annoyed that Merc didn’t try hards on one of their cars. Maybe it would have made no difference but I was wondering as we watched it become a procession. I suppose M...

Re: 2022 Monaco Grand Prix Race Thread

Good to see Norris do well - suffering and recovering from a bout of tonsillitis. As one who had them out in my 20s after suffering with them for years (not fun), I can relate. Can he hold out the rest of the season without needing to have them removed (lots of antibiotics) or maybe have it done in...

Well if Alpine hadn’t already made the Piastri decision, Alonso just made it for them. Lewis was out of contention realistically, so Alonso had more to lose. Re: 2022 Monaco Grand Prix Race Thread

Has Hamilton realised Alonso’s game and responded in kind by backing up Ocon to ensure he loses the maximum possible points courtesy of his teammate? And perhaps he sees it as some kind of justice (I presume Merc think Ocon should have been given more than 5 seconds.) Or taken too much out of his ty...

He was not correcting a snap. He's cut the pit lane exit to cover Charles. We all know that usually once the FIA announce they're investigating and incident like that it's a slam dunk. I think it's a slam dunk penalty (if his wheel went all the way over) but you must have seen something completely ...

Why is Alonso intentionally driving so slow? Would it be as daft as just wanting to rub Hamilton's nose in it? Exactly what FormulaFun and IDFD said. This race is bringing back a lot of memories of 2021 and not in a good way. The vicinity looks good but the track is a snooze. After the Ocon incident the fact that it’s Alonso holding him up is rubbing salt in the wound for Hamilton, who was going well until t...

Clearly the wets are the tyre now, but starting on time and giving the teams the choice of tyres was the chance for those drivers out of position due to the timing of the red flags yesterday to get a better position. First sensible thing I’ve heard on Sky commentary in a while. Start on time and the...

Re: The Official Daniel Ricciardo Thread

I rate Norris and expected him and Danny Ric to be pretty evenly matched on that basis, but not this. Danny has had higher peaks but Norris is still relatively new to F1. It might be that the car has just got into his head and he would do fine with a fresh start somwhere else (Gasly and Alpha Tauri,...

Re: Leclerc, Verstappen, Russell - Where is Norris?

I’ve always felt that Norris was better than Sainz. Norris was a rookie at the start of their time as teammates and was also on the receiving end of a lot of bad luck. Perhaps a little error prone, the win eluding him, but so is Leclerc. I thought it before Imola, where he proved the point, so in my...

Re: Prediction time: Jewellery-gate

I originally thought Lewis would comply and see the sense in it (they must have data related to safety etc to have such a rule) but seeing as he has been given an extension I think we can rule that out. The FIA backing down is my prediction now, being complicit in handing Hamilton’s record breaking ...

Re: Which of the current race winners will not win again?

I think we can be certain of Verstappen and Leclerc and I’d put Hamilton not far behind. He will see out his current contract because he’ll have endless ‘he wasn’t that good, he sulked when it wasn’t going his way’ if he doesn’t. Also this year is even less the way he would want to end his F1 career...

Re: Hamilton/Verstappen Italian GP 2021 Collision Discussion / Poll

3 places is a joke, if more than I expected. Stroll and Bottas got 5 places for theirs in the wet in Hungary. Schumi lost his final pole to a 5 place grid drop... a more Red Bull friendly number was plucked out of the air.

There was an escape road but of course that would have left him further back.

I was expecting a straight swap with Russell, and I think a return to Williams would have been a better move for him: They've got their mojo back and I expect them to be in the points regularly next year. I can't say the same about Alfa. Completely agree. It feels more that Bottas looked at the Kim...

Masi is Red Bull’s puppet. Needed time to evaluate whether giving the position back was the right thing to do. It’s absolute in the rules when passing off the track! Was really hoping Schumacher would go to Alfa Romeo rather than languish at the back with the liability that is Mazepin. If F1/Liberty/Masi/Brawn are so fond of sprint qualifying, let that be the mark. No points awarded if the distance raced (not processed) is less than the distance of a qualifying session. I suspect if a driver in the top 10 had had the fastest lap, the regs wouldn’t have said half points on that so ...

It also means if the same circumstances occur elsewhere at other circuits you CAN NOT cancel as a precedent has been set. Sets up the prospect of a farcical repeat.
