Re: Ecclestone- "Formula 1, the worst it has ever been"
Why do people continue to take what Bernie says at face value? This interview, like every public statement he makes, is just part of a strategy. Criticising F1 is politics to him. If he says X, Y or Z it might be true, but more often than not it's about establishing leverage. He threatens absurd ide...

Re: The Disappearing Team Principals
Interesting article, and something I've thought a lot about in recent times. But it does have some holes. They give the impression there are very few 'real' principals, or principals with money in the team, nowadays. And that outside ownership means the principal isn't always in charge anyway, or th...

I always liked this rear wing Williams experimented with on Villeneuve's car at Monza in 97. As far as I know these stills from a video are the only images of it.

I think it's called the off season and it's nice to have a break when things aren't as intense, the excitement levels pick up again on day 1 of the first winter test. Problem this year is that winter testing starts so ridiculously late. It might as well be called Spring testing. That said, when the...

I think it's irresponsible to call Maldonado a Dangerous driver. Perhaps initially he was a bit of a hothead and did stupid things (if you knew me you'd KNOW how much I detest that "S" word!!!), but the last 2 seasons he made less mistakes than before and really tried to drive and didn't really pla...

Not recent but I've often come across references in books to Damon Hill being unpopular in the paddock. I've always found it hard to reconcile.
To even it out and avoid being negative, Mark Webber was, and is, hugely popular.

Jesus, I just looked him up. He's never won a race in a car and his karting record is poor. OK so he's only 16 and not going to be racing, but still. What potential is he meant to have? Vettel beat Webber - by varying amounts. As the years passed the gap got bigger and Vettel won 4 World Championships and seemed to be at his peak. Then Ricciardo beat Vettel and Vettel moved on. Then Vettel beat Raikkonen easily. The cars do have a big influence. Many times we see them paired up be...

Assuming the new reports are true this is great news for F1. Pay drivers are a fact of life. Bunging a back-marker team a few million to buy someone a chance to prove themselves is one thing. But funding year after year at proper teams with massive sums of money and when you've long proved unworthy ...

The drivers were complaining? Some forumers now use these cars as proof of how anaemic the present day cars are, maybe then they should realise that there are sensible limits to how fast you can make the cars perform. Overtaking a Mercedes W06 is clearly very difficult if you're also driving one. Does that make Nico and Lewis following each other around at ~0.5 seconds exciting? I feel like there's a bit of a double standard going around the F1 fanbase at the moment. When overtaking happens it's called fake or a...

Irregardless of the speed differential, overtaking in 2002 spec F1 was very difficult. That makes it infinitely more exciting to me. I love MotoGP. This. Excitement doesn't stem from overtaking. We really need to get over that misconception. It stems from the possibility of overtaking. Renault said something like this last year. What it turned out they meant was they'd had the ICE turned down in 2014 to try and stop it blowing. Does Bernie hypnotise people during the deal making process or something? Time and again problems arise because someone (usually a race promoter) signs a contract they later realise is financially unworkable, even though the numbers were presumably laid bare from the start.
