Re: Official Max Verstappen thread
Truly the heir to Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna for all the wrong reasons... The collision was just disgraceful driving from Max. If you look at his onboard you can see he was dawdling in the middle of the track, weaving subtly left and right so it wasn't clear which side Hamilton was expecte...

The reason given for the red flag is that the barrier repair is insufficient and they need to get a crane in there to do it properly. I can agree with that having seen the wonky state of the barrier at the point the red flag was shown. My problem with this though is that: 1) Why don't they position ...

Re: The difference Hamilton and Verstappen make
A think a key factor here is that Red Bull appear to operate as a one-car team in the way that Schumacher's Ferrari team and Alonso's Renault team did. They have an appointed lead driver who receives the bulk of the engineering focus, be it physical upgrades on the car, pitstop strategy, telemetry a...

Re: Will the FIA step up. A possible championship permintation.
I can't see either driver crashing into the other deliberately for all the reasons mentioned. However I can definitely see both drivers taking a "get out of my way or we crash" attitude that results in a collision (again) when neither backs down. In fact I'd say it's highly likely that will happen i...

Re: 2021 Qatar Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
FIA is in a awful place at the moment. So fans recognise the issue of double yellows straight after quali while F1 prioritises dinner in a posh restaurant and will sort it out tomorrow. This could easily all be wrapped up after qualifying ffs. It's seriously poor. How are Red Bull and Verstappen su...

Re: 2022 proposed sprint format.
In principle it sounds fun but engine usage could be problematic. I could see the top teams having no interest in it in terms of Engine usage. What would also happen with Parc Ferme? Maybe they could switch engines between Friday qualifying and the Sunday race. But that is a lot of work for mechani...

Re: Welcome Guanyou Zhou to F1
As I said in the Silly Season thread I think this makes perfect sense for Alfa Romeo. Overall they'll stand a better chance of having a better season with the money that Zhou brings in, given that Bottas should do a good job in the other car and Zhou himself is not terrible. Of course we'd always li...

What's the outcome of the incident review? It's 3 hours since the start of the hearing. They have taken a break and will resume the discussion at 5pm GMT. I was thinking about either team creating a one race special engine for Abu Dhabi. Lets say we get to Abu Dhabi in a scenario that whoever wins, wins the title. One driver is clearly dominant in qualifying and race pace in practise. Would it then be worth the other driver sticking in a one race spe...

Re: Silly Season 2022
Bit harsh on Gio. Not that he set the world alight but I'm not convinced by his replacement (though I hope to be proven wrong). Giovinazzi definitely has some speed and has done a decent job in qualifying but always seems to go backwards in races, as evidenced by his solitary point this season. Ove...

Re: Brazil 2021 - Should Max have been given a Penalty
I keep watching the onboard footage and if he gets away with this, get ready for stock-car type racing in the future. The track limits now don't matter if you're defending. You can brake as late as you like, ignore the corner and go as wide as you like to keep another driver behind. It'll basically...

100% yes. I don't like this now common practice of pushing other drivers off the track to cut off an overtake, but doing it and then not staying on the track yourself takes it to another level altogether. I don't see how Max's actions are in any way defendable for anyone who is interested in fair ra...

Now, is it really that outrageous to assume that Verstappen, in the same car as Bottas, could put 0.250-0.300% over him in qualifying? I think it's a pretty big stretch especially since Verstappen hasn't driven a car with long wheelbase and far less responsive front end. Your mileage may vary. It's...

Sprint "qualifying" was a rubbish idea that hasn't delivered. What I think might make this more interesting for next year is: - Keeping qualifying in its current format and making the sprint event an actual race with proper points handed out, as Brawn has alluded to. - The reg change for next year. ...

Alonso always was a better driver than Hamilton. Red Bull have already shown in Silverstone that they're quite prepared to lose constructors' points from Perez just to deprive Hamilton of a fastest lap point. I don't think there's any question of a doubt that they would do the same if this hypothesised situation arose.

If he's within 18 points of Hamilton, Verstappen's lack of caution and assumption that Hamilton had backed off at Copse will have cost him the title. This I agree with. Risk management is an important skill in putting together a title challenge and it's the only area where Verstappen is falling sho...

I would speculate that they're using Bottas as a testing platform to try out different parts to try to get to the bottom of their engine gremlins. It looked pretty amateurish to me, probably borne out of the frustration of being punted to the back and possibly an underlying belief that the Haases are not a factor in the race and should jump out of the way.
