Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

So surely, if Hamilton can lay one hand on the title when he has Fernando Alonso as his team-mate, he can almost certainly win a WDC alongside Jenson Button. After all, even the most hardcore Button fans, including myself, would admit Alonso to be the superior driver, yet Button is good enough to t...

Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

Please people, if you're having trouble getting FLB to acknowledge any sort of logical reasoning, or any facts that disprove any of their numerous erroneous statements, don't get your knickers in a twist. Instead I'd recommend that you go and read the now locked "the true cost of a puncture" thread...

Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

Do you think that what you just said might be the actual problem? That McLaren in trying to be self-centered has relegated itself to secondary constructor status. The way they are going, they may not win a WCC for another 20 years... How is it self centered? The WDC gets them no more than bragging ...

Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

Now McLaren is essentially in an untenable situation - they need a rocket to have a decent chance of winning. A lot of you point to 2007 but many of you don't realize that no one considered Lewis a threat back then and Lewis didn't have the same pressure that he has today. Now, other drivers go cra...

Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

Let me ask you this - if Hamilton was 2 more points ahead before they entered China, who would have won in 2007? Don't you think that if he was driver #1, he would have had 2 more points over Raikonnen? That makes the incident in China irrelevant. Think of it mathematically - with Alonso as his tea...

Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

It shouldn't matter who his team mate is. Hamilton is a WDC and therefore should be capable of beating anyone on the grid. The first person you have to beat is your team mate after all, regardless of who they are. F1 is a team sport, McLaren have always operated as a team first. They will employ th...

I won't go into the whole post as I'm sure benmc can fight his own battles but I will take you up on one point: 2007. Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

The only winner they've ever seen in the last 20 years is Lewis and they have lost him more WDCs than they've won him. Today: 2012 Mika Hakkinen: WDC in 1998 and 1999. Less than 20 years! You're right but it's a different century and in terms of F1 probably a couple of centuries since McLaren had a...

Fact is they have won 1 WDC in the last 12 years and 1 WCC in the last 20. There's nothing that validates that point more than this statement. As much as I hate to say this, McLaren are a bunch of losers. The only winner they've ever seen in the last 20 years is Lewis and they have lost him more WD...

@freelittlebirds NOBODY with any understanding of F1 will disagree with you when you say that it is more difficult for a driver to win the WDC when he has another top driver alongside him. Top drivers take points away from each other, and that can let someone else in. I'm not so sure about that one...

Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

This is pure conjecture, though. At the end of the day money is a poor indication of driver status because it has no functional effect on the driver's chances to win the title. In 2010, for example, Hamilton was earning loads more than Button and yet they were still treated equally. Correction, mon...

I wish though Lewis would move to a team where he could get #1. He sorely needs it, in my opinion of course. I'm sure Sauber, Force India, etc etc would gladly give him #1 status. I don't think they could afford to give him the wages he wants though ;) Alternatively, it could become Force Hamilton ...

In old points Vettel would be about 18 points back, Hamilton about 25. It will be tough, but they still have a chance need to get on a run of podium/wins, Hamilton in particular. Also Raikkonen is still in it, but they need to improve quali and Lotus need to go for more agressive strategies. Rosber...

Re: Who is the optimal teammate for Lewis Hamilton?

Yes but Chinki why should Hamilton get No1 status? He was beaten by Button last year and beat Button in 2010. 1-1. So they went into this year as equals which IMO was the right call by McLaren. Lewis looks like he's stepped his game up but what's to say Button won't for the remainder of the season ...

That tire puncture has really cut Hamilton's chances like a Japanese katana. McLaren were right there - Hamilton put them there but they just destroyed every good move he made. Can't you understand that if Alonso was with Ferrari in 2008 battling it out with Kimi, that Hamilton would have won in 2007? You are of course leaving one very vital piece out of that equation. Lewis could have benefited from information and experience Alonso brought to the team. For instance car ...
