Re: 2018 Belgian Grand Prix Race Thread
The Halo deflected Alonso's right front tyre away from Leclerc's head to which it was on a collision course, without it it would have gone down like Senna unfortunately. https://twitter.com/i/status/1034009643331330049 That twitter link is kind of jerky when I play it back. The real structural component of the Halo is steel. The cracks in these photos are in the cosmetic/aero carbon fiber wrapping.

Re: 2018 Belgian Grand Prix Race Thread
I posted my take on it in the Halo thread and have since seen a slowed down version of the video and my speculation was right. I saw it on FB but it was a link to a Sky video. Alonso’s car was coming almost straight down at the point the cars hit each other and Leclerc was driving straight into the ...

Re: Halo confirmed for 2018!
Look at it this way. Alonso was vaulted high enough to clear the T-bar camera of the Sauber yet the marks on the Halo seem to be about mid-cockpit. What that tells us is the Mclaren was on a steep downward trajectory at that point having expended most of its energy going upward first. Both cars stil...

Re: Silly Season 2019
I see no reason for RBR to offer a seat to Alonso. They turned him down several years ago when he was much younger and had a young star in place. Now he's pushing 40 and they have an even younger star in place. He brings nothing to the table for them.

If they are a new legal entity and allowed to come in this season does that mean that, theoretically at least, they start from zero regarding power unit usage? I'm sure that with the totally fair and equitable practices that we're used to in F1... They'll lose all of the points (team only, drivers ...

Re: Silly Season 2019
I don't see the upside to placing Leclerc at Haas for either him or the team. Haas might be willing to take on Ferrari Academy/affiliated drivers but they're looking to be competitors themselves so I don't see them willing to take on one that might only be there for 1 season. Haas would be better of...

The Honda engines used in Indy come from Honda America and it's been said they don't have the same sort of hang ups about drivers running a different make in other series that the home base does.

For the most part I'm more a fan of the sport than drivers or teams. I find the ingenuity behind the tech and working the rules to their nth degree fascinating. Of course it also drives me nuts when they ignore simple solutions to problems just to stick to some legacy ideal. ::cough::ground effects:...

Good news for FI. They are very talented team. I guess it is almost certain now that Stroll will be one of the drivers next year. Yeah. Checo's well aware of this. I’d say it’s not an exact 1:1 comparison. Max and Carlos were both rookies in their first year and Max moved up mid-season the following year. I don’t think Carlos would compare against Max as well now, and I think that Hulk has him slightly in the shade so far shows that he hasn’t progressed as muc...

So I guess the pressure is on Lance Stroll to perform next season. Assuming that this team remains better than the Williams ...

Another binary poll? So tired of either/or opinions. There’s so many shades of grey there should be at least 3 choices in a poll like this. I like both drivers and would love to see them fighting at the sharp end with each other and the other top drivers. Ricciardo has the most to lose since a lot o...

While I’m not a huge fan of Alonso’s off-track team politics machinations. I think he’d thrive in the public access in Indy racing. Witness his interaction with the crowd in Canada went his engine went poof, again, last year or the year before.

How big is Dan? Hulk has been disadvantaged by his height, and subsequently his weight, thus far but next year is when they go to weight being driver+seat so the jockey sized drivers will have fewer options for ballast placement.

I can’t see way Kimi steps into the RBR. It doesn’t make sense for either the team or the driver. Gasly will take the RBR seat, and we’ll have to wait to see what happens with FI before the rest of the driver market can settle.

It’s way too soon for me to make such a binary decision on this topic. It’ll be hard for it to be as good as Lewis, or as bad as it has been for Alonso. Renault’s trajectory is upward but are they willing to throw the amount of money at the team as Mercedes and Ferrari do? I don’t see them making ve...

It would be too bad that WEC moved their Fuji race to accommodate Alonso if he doesn't race in F1 next season. They're screwing over a lot of very good drivers who race in both WEC and IMSA, and IMSA teams with that move. WEC should've stuck to their guns and either Alonso would have to miss the USG...
