Re: Is this a Lotus 72 with a canopy?
Some more shots of the same car from the same race... You'll notice the complete lack of a canopy. Any photos of practice? That is, after all, where they try new stuff out isn't it? Look at the capacity crowd in the background of jiminwatford's original screenshot. It's race day, I'm quite sure. Bu...

Not bad at all!
And while you're at it, how about the Ligier JS5 - the 'teapot' version with the oversize airbox?
EDIT - That link might not work for you. You know the one!

Re: Is this a Lotus 72 with a canopy?
There is no canopy. There never was any canopy. We have entered the realm of entirely imaginary things.
That being so, might we consider other historical cars which would lend themselves to a closed cockpit? Or are we agree that the 72 represent the optimum design for these purposes?

Schumacher didn't live with Rosberg. Obviously, Corinna would never have approved. Best to take advantage of other arrangements. Why people think he would have lived with Hamilton I'll never know. I know. They weren't even an item. :uhoh: It's funny because it means two different things... The gigg...

Michael would not have let Lewis past at Monza, CotA. Plus there's no way Schumacher would have halfheartedly scuppered Rosberg's qualifying lap in Monaco: he would have wholeheartedly done it in the race.

Why is there a translucent quality to Fittipaldi's face and helmet? And why is there a UFO hovering beside his head? Isn't it Ronnie Peterson? You can just make out the red and black helmet. Re: Is this a Lotus 72 with a canopy?
Do as Lt. Drebin suggests and cover the irregular line which appears to extend from the airbox - Blinky's tyre markings on the far wall - and the impression of a canopy does seem to be reduced. All other features lending to the appearance of a canopy are consistent with those of a Lotus 72. But ques...

Re: Cars already faster than last year?
In Austin the pole lap was a little bit faster than in 2013, but the race fastest lap was 1.5s slower. If cars are comparatively faster in qualifying but comparatively slower in the race, then that would suggest a greater degree of conservation during the race. They could go faster, but that would ...

Re: The last time such a high-profile driver was pushed out?
Do you mean pushed out of a team of out of F1? Surely Button could find a seat somewhere if he really wanted to. I'd assume that a winning team is meant by this. Any current / former WDC who is still at / near his peak should expect to have a drive with a team capable of challenging for wins. Yes, ...

I don't think they were stopping him racing if he wanted to... he was rumoured to be joining McLaren, but ironically (given the example in the first post), that drive went to Jenson. Kimi in 2010? I forget the amount of money that Ferrari paid him for 2010 NOT to race. The point being that by paying him not to race, it can hardly be said that he had no choice in the matter. The other point being that he was paid not to race for another team, negating the question of whether he ...

The last time such a high-profile driver was pushed out?
Michael Schumacher would make a flattering point of comparison most of the time, but a case here is difficult to make. Not that some won't try, so best to get it out of the way: Michael in 2006 was much older than Jenson is now and, while we don't know how the German felt about Maranello's position ...
