15% of us are now wrong.
What was your original prediction, and has it changed since you made it? I still think 2017 but maybe I rate the chances of a fluke third place in 2016 a bit higher after Hungary.

Re: 2015 Feeder Series Uberthread
Surprising news today - Rosenqvist will take part in the GP2 test in Abu Dhabi in December. Could it be possible that he'll do GP2? After all these years it would be weird to see him driving in something that is not an F3 car :) Haha, I agree. Fingers crossed though, that at least one of the three ...

Re: Who had the best Runner Up Season?
If he actually manages to be runner up this season, I might consider Vettel 2015 :p
The only ones that stand out from my time of following F1 are Alonso 2012 and Kimi 2005. Hamilton 2007 I guess is worth a mention.

I think for me it's more each race individually than the championships, they're more like icing on the cake at the end of the seasons. At least some seasons.

Re: Has watching F1 made you a smarter driver?
In Scandinavia it's obligatory to do one day of skidpan driving to get your license. That was enough for me to instinctively know what to do with a car that loses grip ever since, but it's different for RWD/FWD/AWD, obviously. I learnt to drive in a Volvo 740 and gave myself slides in the winter on ...

Re: 2015 Feeder Series Uberthread
Vandoorne might not win every race anymore, but when his quickest competitors do things like crash out from the lead due to unforced errors and practice skateboard tricks on the kerbs or completely balls up qualifying, he suddenly looks pretty far ahead of the competition.

Re: 2015 Feeder Series Uberthread
I think Rowland is ready for F1, too, but there's a lot of competition for the seats now with a few guys already waiting with equal or even better CVs. I hope he goes to GP2 along with Vaxiviere, plus Ocon, Ghiotto and maybe Kirchhöfer and Bernstorff as well. Would make for a very interesting GP2 gr...

Marciello himself though has not done much since, the year later Rosenqvist was well beaten by a couple of rookies called Ocon and Verstappen, Verstappen also being a rookie to car racing, Blomqvist beat him easily as well. Yes, but that would've been hard to predict in 2013. I'm not defending his ...

Re: 2016 Drivers
As for Felix Rosenqvist, Palmer would wipe the floor with him. There's a reason he's been in F3 for so long. Yes, there is. Money. If he had any at all there's no way he'd still have been in F3 in 2014 after having been close to Marciello in 2013. Hell, he probably would've moved up in 2012 already...

Re: 2016 Drivers
If Rowland, Ocon and some of their main rivals this year would all end up in GP2 next season, THAT might be a pretty salivating grid, to be honest, if the quick but inconsistent bunch running behind Vandoorne this year can improve a bit.

Re: 2016 Drivers
I've read Lotus will go with either JEV or Ocon. Also read, in the same report, that Grosjean will go to Haas for a year to then take Kimi's spot at Ferrari in -17. That doesn't make much sense to me since then, from what I've heard, Bottas would be available and even Verstappen might be possible to...

I'll laugh (not really) if this ends up like poor Vandoorne, Magnussen got the McLaren seat; poor Kmag, Alonso got the McLaren seat; poor Kmag, Vandoorne got the McLaren seat; poor Vandoorne, the McLaren is still fairy cakes and Kmag is scoring points with Haas. I hope both of them can find good sea...

I guess my thinking is if it's a done deal, Renault know Lotus are in dire straits financially and could buy them now to not get locked in with the driver Lotus signs for next year to stay afloat, but maybe they're on board or maybe someone is up to creative economy/contracts, wouldn't exactly be th...

Strange to extend Maldonado's contract and not Grosjean's if Renault are taking over, I'd have guessed they'd prefer a French driver and probably a French oil company (total) instead of a Venezuelan one, too?

Here's one for the strategists anyway:
When you see a tyre blowout on a competitors car in FP1, like the first time in the season a tyre has just blown up like that, do you think it's a good idea to put your leading driver on a marginal 1-stop strategy at that track?

You can see something going on on the inside of tyre in the replay, right before the blowout. Remains to be seen whether it was damaged earlier of course.

This is the first time they're using the updated 2015 Ferrari engine, I don't remember when Ferrari ran it the first time but Sauber elected to hold off until now. They're still closer to Ferrari than I'd expect, no changes to the chassis afaik though.

Re: How Far Up the WCC will McLaren get?
I just love how all the factors in the McLaren story add up to make it so unpredictable, and with their fate having little to do with the outcome of anything but their WCC position it's lots of fun to speculate on. I'm betting on STR to keep scoring points on and off to stay ahead of McLaren, and fo...

Re: Can Vettel win the championship?
Larger points gaps have certainly been closed in a lot fewer races, people seem to forget that it's 'just' 42 points with 225 still on the board, but I'd be surprised if the Merc advantage were to just go away from Hungary on. The Hungaroring is a fairly special circuit, Monaco without the walls and...

What always annoyed the hell out of me was that Michael Schumacher started all of his sentences with "obviously". Even when there was no obvious reason to do so. You can tell he was Vettel's big example because Vettel seems to have inherited this quality. Admittedly: he doesn't do it quite as often...

Re: When will McLaren get back on the podium?
For a second there, as cars were eliminated left and right and Alonso started gaining place after place, I was starting to think that one admirably loyal and optimistic McLaren fan would be proven right. But he/she wasn't. And it took a lot of attrition, both FIs out, one Ferrari out, both Mercs hav...

Let's hope Merc still hasn't fixed their 35+ degrees hot problem and let's hope Kimi can do well at a track he can be great at, or failing that, at least manage to make it a fifth time for the most common Hungary 1-2 of the last 10 years.

I think it's a great idea for third/reserve drivers and without changing the schedule for the normal GP. In between FP3 and quali or switch around the time of the GP2 feature race or something. Valuable for both teams and young drivers, except for the cost of bringing a third car of course.

How are RBR doing on the power unit components used right now? Can't remember if they started to take penalties yet. If that starts to hurt them soon maybe FI have a chance, otherwise I think it'll be difficult for them to catch up.
