To be fair Max wasn't a million miles away from doing something similar at the same complex. The wind got up and the Ferrari apparently does bite when you get a snap.

Re: It's finally happened...

I actually don't really have a problem with changes in format. If you grab someone from pretty much any era and drop them into another they'd be shocked by how much things have changed. If in 10 years time 10 sprints and 20 races has become standard then for most people that will be what F1 is. Inde...

When I started watching F1 there was 2 qualifying sessions and a practice on Sunday morning. Was that better than we have now? Yes. :smug: It was especially fun if it was wet on Friday prior to a dry weekend. Then you'd have the joy of tuning into Q1 to watch a clock count down for an hour with lit...

Re: Tweaks of Sprint and Qualifying

I bet there are many, many barriers to doing it, but has anyone ever considered chucking the F1 drivers in the spec F2 cars? The sprint format we have now (so about 6 a season) but as a spec day, so practice/setup, followed by quali and a sprint race. It would obviously be highly interesting and pot...

Re: 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Race Thread

Genuine question: is overtaking in the pitlane allowed? I did wonder. My guess would be that they don't have to overtly disallow it because it is managed by the pit land speed limit. That naturally means you can only overtake a car that is going significantly slower than what is allowed for whateve...

Alonso's strategy seems to be staying 2-3 seconds or so until he has the pace advantage to make the jump to DRS a single lap. I think he just tested the water and called it off when it didn't happen.

Irrespective of whether it's a good idea in general, actually changing the format set out at the start of the season two races in without a really good reason doesn't exactly make it seem like F1 is putting the sport part of the package foremost.

I think both have likeable traits. Max is an absolute racer who really only wants to be racing and hates everything else about being an F1 driver (apart from the money I'd bet). He's very straight talking and straight forward. There is absolutely no bull with Max. He's honest and doesn't really car...

I remember ages ago there was a thread about what WDC results you might change if (IF) you had carte blanche control over history. I think I mentioned 2008 :) For me I was just sad for Massa how it happened, especially in retrospect given how much Lewis went on to win. I'm sure that still hurts him....

I would think that the interpretation of "the last point at which it was possible to determine the position of all cars" is the last completed sector/timing zone prior to the red flag, meaning prior to the restart.
