Re: Mazepin set to lose his seat
Im working on the assumption that the decision regarding Mazepin is going to be made a lot easier by the fact its probably going to be hard for Uralkali to make any payments to Haas going forward, with all these sanctions in place.

Re: Hamilton replacement
It would be vandoorne wouldnt it? The reserve driver I think. This is very late on in the "silly season" to make any big changes imho. If you consider all those currently with a seat are probably out of the picture for 2022 ... no team, deep in development for their 2022 car, would be willing to let...

The result should stand but the FIA should be held to task on the farcical handling of the final few laps. Just so we can get some semblance of clarity …. truth be told though, Lewis had bad luck here, with Perez being well placed to erode a chunk of his lead at the opportune moment and the safety c...

Re: Verstappen's driving in Saudi GP (split from Official Max Verstappen thread)
Verstappen’s aggression was laid bare for all to see this weekend. It produced moments of brilliance and also moments of stupidity. I feel his driving crossed the line at several points. He was a very lucky boy IMHO. It just would have taken one of those penalties to have been a stop-go variant for ...

Obvious penalty.
Its clear to me the powers that be are keen on a non Mercedes victory this year and have been before the season began. That may seem a controversial statement, but it isnt meant to be. This isnt new and has happened to all the major teams over the decades.

Sigh ... Why can’t we have good things? HAM/RUS for 2021 please. Why the hell Toto gave Bottas a seat for 2021 so early I don’t know. George was immense today. So funny the commentators were going on about George possibly fluffing the start and the “experienced” drivers like Leclerc and Verstappen s...

I like the chap, but Albon has not shown enough to warrant retaining his seat - and the fact he is still there is testament to him. Clearly, RB want to give him an opportunity to stay, else he would already have been gone - so he is clearly doing something right. If it were my decision though, I wou...

Re: Calling it now: Hamilton's records will never be broken
Whilst Formula One remains a sport that has its goal posts moved from season to season, and the very nature of the championship change from one year to the next, I think it is safe to assume records are there to be broken. For example - 92 race wins seems a lot? How about if we go from having 21 lon...

So I guess the main two seats of importance that remain unspoken for are Mercedes and RB?
My prediction:-
Grossjean in Mercedes
Hamilton in "the Drinks Co. Car."
Now that really would be silly season.

If he can reduce a few of the errors, I think he has a good chance of securing a seat with Redbull for 2020. Yes, he is being beaten by Max in most areas you can compare them (other than points lol), but I, personally, have seen enough to warrant a seat in 2020 - and, well ... Max is champion-level ...

Re: 2019 Canadian Grand Prix Race Thread
Would there be this controversy if the penalty related to "gaining an advantage by leaving the track"? I mean, he left the track and gained an advantage by effectively blocking a faster car (that remained on the track). He had insufficient control, IMHO, to ever safely return to the track, but dont ...

I assumed Werlein would get the seat the moment I heard - only because it offers Mercedes the opportunity to try out fresh talent. I think it would be the boldest of the options, if you are only looking at those currently in F1 at least. The rest, as I see it, are more secure/safe options - Bottas, ...

I think this panned out in the fairest way, ultimately. Lewis had his options limited until the last pit stop, by the team threatening to bring in Rosberg early if he played "silly *inaudible*". After the last pit stop, he had the opportunity to frustrate Rosberg's race ... and that is exactly what ...

I just think Nico can be a bit too blatant sometimes. His move today on Verstappen is a good example of that. It was a calculated move today and I think that is what got him the penalty. I honestly think he will be more conservative. I suspect he will take a new engine soon enough, and then just see how the next couple of races unfold. I think this particular statistic just points out what we kinda already know. Nico, on a good day, can beat Lewis - he just isnt able to consistently beat him. Wait until Nico sees Toto smiling when Nico went off and let Hamilton through... Toto's smirk and Lauda's grin - it was as if they'd placed a joint bet on Rosberg screwing up when the win was on. Honestly, I think the rule is about as clear as it should be - there has to be an element of discretion, or you may as well just kill this sport dead. This same discretion is employed at the start of a race - where the rules have always been somewhat more relaxed. Again, if you didn't have that disc...

Roles reversed? Rosberg would have reacted in just the same way Lewis did. "Crowding off the track"?
