Re: The Official Fernando Alonso thread
I really keep my fingers crossed for some fight with Max (clean or not so clean, time will tell) to see young talent vs veteran who still believes. I say the sparks will fly and radio will be instant "Greatest Hits" category. ... I would think he will be less inclined to tangle with Alonso than he ...

Personally, I have never analysed the rule and format changes to think about what other sport they are seemingly mimicking. My biggest gripe is that the sport is slowly moving away from its traditions and is seemingly far more interested in getting new, quick-fire fans, rather than pleasing those o...

Re: 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Well everyone has done a soft run in FP2 and the top 10 is... 1. Alonso 2. Verstappen 3. Perez 4. Leclerc 5. Hulkenberg 6. Stroll 7. Gasly 8. Hamilton 9. Norris 10. Zhou Who wouldn't take that grid? It would be a hell of a lot more exciting than we were expecting. I'm not getting my hopes up just y...

Re: The Official Oscar Piastri Thread
It clearly helped Perez with Red Bull having a dominant car so Red Bull won all the titles whereas Ricciardo cost McLaren 4th in the WCC. Beyond that it's sort of becoming acceptable for Verstappen's teammates to get crushed whereas Norris hasn't really got the reputation for doing likewise. Well's...

I recall that being Vettel, in a Ferrari, in qualifying at Momza. Not sure of the year. Edit: found an article relatng to it - is RaceFans an acceptable source? That was the white line on the outside of the exit to Parabolica wasn't it? I can see how it's tough to manage regardless of the rule. If ...

I was about to say 'wow, all my predictions are exactly the same' but then realised I'm the first one to complete it  Even though RBR looked good, I've a feeling Ferrari could do well here. Merc might be downplaying their test as well. Aston could be the wildcard here, as could Alfa. I don't ha...

Three days of testing is a joke. That said, I'll be tuning in Saturday just to see that Merc on track. Just out of curiosity, how do you see that limited testing affects the sport from a viewer's perspective? I'm struggling to see how returning to the old testing practices would make the F1 experie...

Not a fan of this Merc design TBH but not becuase I don't think it looks nice, it does, but to me, Merc's should be silver, not black. Ferrari's should be red, Mercs should be silver. Wasn't a fan of the previous black Merc look & i'm no different on this one. Folklore is that Mercedes are silver b...

Here is how I voted in the poll: 1 Mercedes 2 Ferrari 3 Red Bull Racing 4 McLaren 5 Aston Martin 6 Alpine 7 Haas 8 Alfa Romeo 9 Williams 10 Alpha Tauri Pretty much in line with the results. I think AT has the worst pairing (I don't rate Tsunoda and De Vries is still unproven). Surprising to see Haas...

Chanoch Nissany (Roy's father) has to be up there too. Took part in FP1 at Hungary 2005 and was nearly 7 seconds slower than his team mate Christijan Albers, and nearly THIRTEEN seconds off P1. There are a lot of things considered acceptable 40 years ago that aren't now. It shouldn't detract from what Senna 'the racer' was like and why you idolised him in the first place.

Grid penalties is another thing. For me there's nothing worse than seeing someone take pole but then told immediately by the commentator that they have a 5-place penalty for a gearbox change. It's like seeing a wonder goal in football that's then ruled out by VAR (not a good analogy but hopefully yo...

Re: What are your thoughts on the F1 2022 regulation changes?
DRS should be limited to a certain number of uses during the race, and not at all in qualifying (it's an overtaking aid after all?). Having a DRS train lap after lap doesn't help with the 'spectacle' at all and only hinders those in the midfield. I'm in the minority here but I genuinely think F1 sho...

Going back a bit we saw Fisichella in the same way. An almost universal perception that they were a top talent just waiting for the right machinery. Didn't he though? In 2005 and 2006 he had one of the best cars on the grid, and still only took a couple of wins. Admittedly he was up against Alonso.

And the fact that the TV director completely missed Max crossing the line due to the Leclerc/Perez battle; call me old-fashioned but the winner taking the chequered flag is one of the traditions that has always been, regardless whether the driver is on his own at the front or not.

Hill's autobiography gives a good insight into his mindset going into 1999. He detested the grooved tyres (they added an extra groove to the fronts for 99 if IIRC) and his motivation had dropped severely. Silverstone was supposed to be his last race before Verstappen took over, but Eddie convinced h...
