Re: Amazing Sebastian Vettel facts

He's an excellent qualifier no doubt, but it shows that his qualifying skills are somewhat taken for granted, whilst for example Alonso's qualifying skills always seem to be questioned. I think the last race is a good example, it seems FA often qualifies worse than he finishes. (Am I wrong here?) T...

That's not true.

Alonso was, on the whole, performing better from about France onwards.

Re: Amazing Sebastian Vettel facts

No, top speed is not necessary to do overtakes. We saw that for Vettel to in Spa last year. But it certainly helps and at quite a few races we mostly see DRS-assisted top speed overtakes. As for the downforce, I actually went back to see what I exactly said: It is a car that is usually set up to be...

Re: Amazing Sebastian Vettel facts

And the wing is the only deciding factor for downforce? Come on now. Of course not. But clearly you were referring to "higher downforce" being a detriment to straight line speed, which can only mean you were referring to the wing levels. Unless you think the downforce generated through the floor an...

Re: Amazing Sebastian Vettel facts

Very much this. It's amazing how people who spend a good amount of their time to F1 don't have the insight as to why the RBR is not a car that wins from the back. It is a car that is usually set up to be as good as possible in single-lap and clear air. Short gears, high downforce, low top speed. Th...

The car is not being designed by Byrne. He's still working in a consulting role.

Having Byrne involved is no guarantee of success (see the F2012).

Re: Rate Ferrari, what should Alonso do?

Most pundits and experts believe Massa has underperformed hugely since 2010 and that I'm afraid has flattered Alonso big time. If he had a slightly stronger team mate and was still getting the results he's had in recent years then fair enough. But we don't know if he could have done that. The same ...

The Ferrari is always up there at the front, always fighting for podiums, big points or even wins & more often than not fighting for the WDC. Only in Alonso's hands. Massa has managed just 8 podiums, 0 wins and 0 pole positions since 2010 in the very same car. You always rate the RBR based on the #...

Statistics need context, especially in F1, where a driver's achievements is heavily influenced by the car he drives. Statistics don't give a damn about such things as "context". They don't need it. It is same for everyone. Don't think that stats will bother to be partial like we, fans are. "Vettel ...

He'll have to play number 2 if Alonso ends up being the only one in WDC contention (just as he did in 2008, when he had to support Massa's title bid). And vice versa.

In this case though I think Raikkonen is the smart guy for not getting involved with politics. We all know Alonso likes to use them and it doesn't always work for him. With Raikkonen he's going to try and use politics within the team against a guy who doesn't care about them in the first place. It'...

So half the voters think Alonso could have done/be doing a little more. Interesting. Bad cars don't fight for championships. Ferrari have produced one mediocre car since 2009 and that was 2011. The 2010 and 2012 models were very good cars. "Good", "bad" or "mediocre" are note precise definitions. T...

With perhaps the exception of Monaco, the car could have and probably should have won all 6 of those races. So the car can have race winning performance over a prolonged period, and 6 wins in a row by most standards is enough to win a title or is enough to be termed an adequate car. People often li...
