Re: 2022 Miami Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread

$35 for two lemonades at the opening party. 8O It's been said Miami would replace Monaco...even the prices I suppose! I'm guessing that anyone who imagines a fake blue-painted concrete marina will replace Monaco is: a) American, and b) thinks that that plastic Venice at a Las Vegas hotel is as good...

Just watched the Monaco 'E-Prix' (yuk!). I'm an occasional E- watcher. Around the Monaco F1 track - (the only track they share ?) https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/61251337 What Andrew Shovlin says about diagnostic parts hardly sounds like a confidence booster. It looks like they'll be lucky to make any real progress before mid-season, and reading between the lines it seems the car may need a new floor. Does the budget cap...

Who will be the UK's next World Champion?

Before the season started Hamilton would presumably been strong favourite, but is he even second now?

I'm going for Russell - maybe in 2023. I think Lewis isn't going to be able to raise the enthusiasm for next year.

Now, as for the sprint race, that is a problem because it sorts all the cars into race-pace order. This means any mixed-up qualifying is likely to have been removed for the main race. That's the big problem. Just what I was thinking after another pointless sprint race at Imola . The main action was...

Re: 2022 E Dell'Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix FP & Qualy/Sprint Thread

I'm thinking porpoising will be less of an issue at Imola. Shorter straights where the bumpiness can build. And narrower track, negating side-by-side racing as cars trace a common line. With plenty of water around I'd have thought porpoising would be an advantage! Couldnt it be very dangerous? A su...

Re: Should a driver be penalised for crowding or overtaking the car in P1 at a race restart?

I will add, I am in no way against Max getting alongside as they powered away, just wondering about rules. Had Max made the pass and gone on to win the race, would this have been looked into. I know there's a safety car line that crosses the entire track at the entrance to the pitlane, but as they ...

I think Russell has been good. We've seen how much drivers who change teams have struggled recently. He's slower than Hamilton but in the same ball park. After the problems with the 2022 Mercedes - and Hamilton's calling it a 'viper', I think given Russell's lack of experience he has done extra wel...

Based on the results so far, and specifically from Albert Park, I'm pretty much convinced that the new regulations have been a success. The racing seems much improved. My starter is: why did they get rid of the laurel wreaths which were awarded to drivers on the podium? That was a great F1 tradition.
We all know why - because they hid the sponsors' logos. If that doesn't highlight what's wrong with F1 I don't know what does. :frown:

As long as: 1) when the SC goes in and the P1 car assumes control, the P2 car is fully behind him. I.e. they are in single file. 2) the P1 car is still ahead when it crosses the start line. So the overtake is after the 'restart'. I think P2 or other driver accused of crowding is ok - (assuming no d...

I was reading a bit about this. The porpoising is theorised to be possibly down to some of the F1 restrictions, specifically the wind tunnel. Interesting track changes. Will they help overtaking? Wider corner entries may help a bit if the cars can follow closely enough. Losing T9/10 won't help, although the drivers will love it. Where are the DRS zones?

My understanding is that even after the SC peels off and race leader takes control, overtaking is not allowed until after the start line is crossed, so the cars should remain in order - even if they are partly side-by-side - until then. It's up to drivers to take care in that situation just as it is...

After 2 races we have had a fair amount of evidence about whether the new aero package has made for closer racing as intended. Watching the 2 GPs my feeling is that it has. Same here. Dropping some scores always seemed to backfire when it was used. I don't see any gain in it.
