Re: So... who replaces Lewis at Mercedes?

Verstappen would have won races in a Mercedes in 2022 and 2023 largely because if he's driving for Mercedes then he's not driving for Red Bull. Mercedes drivers finished second to Verstappen 8 times across 2022 and 2023. That's assuming he's going up against Perez as lead driver of Red Bull. If Max...

Re: 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Race Thread

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Llxg3Yt-0Mg&t=34s It looks like he wasn't just Norris. at 37 seconds you can see Perez clearly gets a rolling start and looks pretty intentional meaning he has worked out he can game the sensor a little. Re: 2024 Junior Series

It would be interesting to know how many billionaire fathered/mothered drivers have made it to F2/F3/GP3 in the last decade or so and been kept out by the licence points.

Whilst it made it tougher for Latifi and Mazepin it obviously didn't succeed in keeping them out.

Re: 2024 Junior Series

Well, he would be driving for the best team, wouldn't you say? So that already increases his chances. And he could choose to stay in F3 to gain license points, that would be another route available to him. Champions are not allowed to stay in the same series and no there's not really a best team in...

Yes I will continue to complain about DRS because its a sticky plaster slapped on a leaking hull and it disguises a problem that still needs fixing. In my view it's why nobody even bothers defend their position on track anymore Tell it to those who were following Magnuson the last half of the race....

Re: 2024 Junior Series

Given that Latifi and Mazepin got enough licence points together I really don't think anyone can say that Stroll definitely wouldn't have. He would have likely just hung around in GP2/F2 long enough to eventually finish high enough up the order like they did. As we've seen the licence points system...

Re: 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Race Thread

I thought the post-race analysis on F1TV showed that he was moving when the lights went off? Yes I actually just saw this as well - he was moving when lights went out 100% should have been a penalty regardless of if he decided to stop momentarily again afterwards. That even makes it worse then, the...

Norris is paid $20M a year on a mufti year contract, is it not the length of contract that has to be bought out? That depends on the actual contract. There is no hard and fast rule here. Red Bull have a bigger advantage than they did last year. It's shameful that the likes of Leclerc and Norris don't even try and race Verstappen. Norris could have gone to Red Bull which is a bigger shame. Drivers, teams and the sport itself have become incredibly risk averse. Not Hamilton. :) Hamil...

Re: 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Race Thread

You can just use both surely. It's a bit ridiculous not to penalise a driver everyone very clearly saw move just because the sensor said he didn't. Although I could definitely see an argument for not penalising the sort of thing Norris did as he gained no advantage and didn't do anything unsafe. so...

I'm surprised you didn't notice he did pretty well. I can't say I was looking at his times the whole race through, but I can't agree with "massively slower". He didn't do as well as Bearman or Ocon, but that's neither here nor there. In what way did Perez better than Piastri, Russell, Leclerc, Hülk...

Bearman, a fresh face on an otherwise snoozefest.

Why were these first two races held on a Saturday? Anyone know?
They didn't want to host the Saudi Arabia GP on the first day of Ramadan (today) and to allow for 7 days between the GPs they pushed Bahrain forward to Saturday.

Well, that was the argument put to me on this forum a while ago when discussing why drive through and stop and go penalties are no longer being handed out by the stewards, due to the proximity of racing cars and pit lane staff and equipment. I don't necessarily agree with that assessment, but it is...

Unfortunately this is the penalty system we have today. I still think the stop and go penalties should be reinstated, which apparently is not done for safety reasons. I don't think safety has anything to do with it. I think it's just considered to large a penalty now. Well, that was the argument pu...

Simply feisty driving on the edge, but not over it in my view. The commentators on F1TV thought that both penalties were quite harsh and I tend to agree. The overtake having all 4 wheels off the track was a obvious penalty. Other two moves were also over the limit but still he did the job for the t...

Just read that Perez wasn't let out of the pits too soon by the team, he actually ignored the red light that his team continued to show as alonso was passing. Fundamentally reliability shouldn't be a factor in junior series. The objective of these series is to prep young drivers for the next rung up and allow them to showcase their talents. Random reliability issues don't serve either of those aims.
