Klauss,
I think if you re-read my post you will see that I am at the same conclusion that you are, maybe I got there differently, but same place.

Re: Alonso vs Senna
Senna by a country mile. Hamilton unsettled Alonso with his speed. Hamilton is very fast. Senna was the fastest ever (although an arguement could be made for Clark). Senna would cause a complete melt down in Alonso - not toys out of the pram - melt down. If we assume that did not happen - Senna was ...

Hamilton looks quick. Could be worth keeping an eye on him this season. It's only testing, you can't go making early conclusions from it. ;)  Well, all the 5 races we just had were only testing too. There's still more than 10 races left. With half the race over, that means ther...

Re: Power Struggle at Ferrari?
Ferrari need to win next year for Alonso. He is not getting any younger. Commitment to winning is great but you can't help but wonder if he might be wishing he'd have gone to Mercedes. I don't see him as having any particular loyalties to a specific team.

I marked NASCAR not because I like it but because its the only one besides Indycar that gets decent coverage here. I wish the others did. Indycar is just a version of F1 with heavier cars, longer braking, and inferior drivers.

Re: Can Mercedes hold the advantage?
Even if Red Bull catch them at the mid point of the season if Mercedes continues to rack up points until then - it won't matter for this years championship. I think we've seen before in 2006 & 2009 that having the best car early on and racking up points can easily make up for not having the best car...

Re: Best Driver Pairing (after 4 races)
Talking about victory margins is silly. We saw a glimpse of what the victory margins might be after the safety car at Bahrain. In other words they aren't running the cars as hard as they can for the race distances. If they get a big enough margin in the WCC we may see them start to, but to argue tha...

At what team? At Renault with the too small swimsuit wearing fraudster playboy, in charge? Alonso. At McLaren with Ron Dennis in charge and equal treatment? At peak performance probably Alonso, but if Hakk started outqualifying him and could be ahead after a 1/3rd or 1/2 of the season (which I'd put...

My only conclusions are : 1- The 2007 and 2008 Ferrari may well have been the very best car of the field. 2- Too bad for Webber that he was not promoted from the RBR nursery. I was thinking about point 1 last night. Is Alonso currently proving how much better the 2007 Ferrari was than the McLaren. ...

Re: Best Driver Pairing (after 4 races)
I think its hard to argue against Rosberg and Hamilton based on results. Yes, they clearly have the best car, but drivers can either take advantage of that or make a mess of it. Other than Lewis' DNF they have taken full advantage of it - and the DNF was not driver error or being hard on the machine...

They aren't that good on single lap pace. Fernando was very happy with fourth - yet all three drivers ahead of him made mistakes in qualifying. Formula 1, more than any other racing series has always placed a premium on qualifying. If its gotten easier to pass with DRS and ERS, you still have the is...

I really think it is as simple as single lap pace.
There is a bit more to it but lack of single lap pace is at least 50% of their problem.

I think they lose out in the mid year development war and in qualifying. I'll go back to something Ron Dennis said to Michael Andretti after one of his qualifying sessions in 1993 - "what are you smiling about your only fifth." The only grid positions you can consistantly win from in F-1 are the top...

Three Points I'll make: 1st: I think the fuel flow benefited RBR to the extent that they would've finished below the McLaren of KM had they not had it. So basically, if Red Bull don't get their own way, they will just leave? They are starting to sound more and more like Ferrari. Michael version 2 was not the same as Michael version 1. He wasn't a bad driver in version 2, but he no longer stood head and shoulders above the rest. I beleive he could win after Senna's death and Mika's retirement/disinterest in not the best car in version 1 as long as it was a decent car. In ver...

I don't think Ferrari's influence is too much now. If you asked me that question in 2002-2005 you'd have got a different answer. Was I wrong then? Maybe, maybe not. Am I wrong now? I don't think so. Ask a Ferrari fan if McLaren had too much influence from 85-91. You'd get a very different answer tha...

If Ferrari were to leave to start a rival series they would need McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, or Williams to go with them. For any racing to be sucessful over time it requires tight competition at the top. It would require Ferrari (or any other team) to NOT win all the time. For Ferrari to not win I...

However, if they left over controversy or perceived unfair dealings, that would be another. I think there is an important difference between a...

I'm a McLaren fan. I wouldn't like it. It would be tolerable if there were a team that could consistantly compete with McLaren over decades.
