Re: Is Anybody Out There?

I just realised after reading the other thread completely (The meaning of Life), this and that are actually bordering on the same topic. Happy to merge if so desired. Easiest way is to just report the thread in case I forget to check back here. Which is highly likely given it's a race weekend and l...

Re: Is Anybody Out There?

@runningman: Im a non religious person, so I find it hard to believe something can be created out of nothing. Although, as Alienturnedhuman said, there are many theories to how humans evolved, the basic fact everyone agrees is that we are carbon based life form. And Carbon is one of the elements th...

Re: Is Anybody Out There?

We don't know what caused life to occur on Earth. God is one of the theories. I cannot disprove the fact that God exists, anymore than a believer can prove that God does exists. But if the conditions were equal, including the 'vacuum planets such as Jupiter' and no life existed, it may add a little...

Re: The meaning of life thread

The more we learn, the less we know. Is that by design or just physics, or are we all just pixels in a 3d game without meaning. This phrase "The more we learn, the less we know" is rather an oxymoron - it can't be so. And it is not so. The phrase is there to say that, that more we learn, that more ...

If we found a planet that is the same as ours in every way, size, distance from its sun, has the same moon, water, climate, weather patterns, gravity field, same age, same state, but.....................no life. The meaning of life thread

Personally I have a romantic view that we are the eyes of the universe and that we are here so that the universe can view itself, giving it a reason to exist at all. We are witnesses to it's own creation, animated stardust, so to speak. My other view is that we are a by product, quirk of physics, ra...

I think Clarkson is funny. I know this because he makes me laugh, which is instinctive. Why fight your instincts? Complaining about things, just makes me feel bad. So I don't moan and complain, unless I am in pain. Complaining people just seem to want to off load there own pain onto someone else. My...

The next time the craft will come even remotely close to another star? About 40,000 years No, they can't know because they are looking at ancient history with their telescopes, they can't know what's out there now or what will be along Voyager's path 40,000 years from now. Less than 20 seconds to do the distance of the entire Australian GP. Fast, but still takes over 5 hours to cover the distance light covers in one second in a vacuum.

Here is something to consider. As we see in Sifi, the only way to go somewhere in your own lifetime is some sort of transporter. It seems people are actually working on this, and I Watched a program by michio kaku, who should know if anyone does, and the idea is they 'scan' you into particles, emai...

Voyager 1 Leaves the Solar System at 10 miles a second.

No human artefact has ever reached so deep into the cosmos. A measure of the distance travelled is that it takes a staggering 16 hours for Voyager 1's radio messages to arrive on Earth. Standing in NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California two years ago, I watched as data from the lonely craft ...

This seasons top 5 already decided?

Can't help but think that the Australian GP top 5, will remain just that at the end of the season. Hopefully, a different order, with Lewis at the top. They are all hungry and Massa is a slow and consistent burner. I just can't see where the threat to those five drivers will come from.
