Re: Young driver dry spell
Part of it surely has to do with pay Drivers being able to hold onto their seats because the teams likely already know what they have with said drivers and the money they bring in year after year is a sure thing, and thus, those are seats that used to be utilized to trial youngsters here and there. ...

Re: F1TV archives from 1970 onwards
Gosh there was a website that had every single race from 1974 on but for the life of me, I can’t remember the name!!!
They were almost shut down by Bernie Ecclestone in the mid 2000’s but they had a complete archive of every race with pre and post race interviews.

Re: It's finally happened...
Yeah, I would agree that there is very credible evidence to support the idea that Red Bull had a form of traction control on their cars in 2013. That doesn't mean it was illegal, though; exploiting a loophole is an error in the rules, not a form of cheating by the team. The law says robbing from ba...

Re: F1 Gossip/Rumour/Inside news Thread
Leclerc is supposed to be soon signing a new 2+1 year contract with Ferrari, Sainz also wants to resign for Ferrari but that's still under discussion. It was said that Sainz and his dad are trying to get Ferrari to match Leclerc's deal for him or he's out, which would likely be the rumored move to ...

I've actually heard both. This silly season is oddly quiet outside of this and Hulkenberg to Red Bull talk because he was spotted at their trailer.

Can you elaborate on all the little things that Red Bull got away with over the years? Completely missed that to be honest. Re: It's finally happened...
IIRC they said they would be giving harsher penalties in future. I echo what Exediron says. I think a harsher penalty would have been appropriate and I certainly support harsher penalties for future breaches. The problem with that is that then you're guilty of favoritism, which is seemingly the cas...

Re: It's finally happened...
I guess I'm a moron, because I frankly don't think it was enough to matter. That said, I fully supported a harsh penalty for them, and I will support the same for anyone found to have broken the cap this year. Sport is competition within a set of rules, and if you allow people to break the rules an...

Re: It's finally happened...
But if you want to believe the Red Bull superiority stems directly from that overspend, it is easy enough to get an idea of how much the overspend could have gained them in lap time (remember the remark by Laurent Mekies), and how much the fine represents in lost lap time. If you consider the overs...

Re: It's finally happened...
We don't know they didn't apply for it. Wouldn't it be real and not notional if they applied? Except of course, if they did apply and failed to win it. In that case, using it as an excuse for overspending would be even more of a joke - so, I don't believe it. That depends on what "notional" is actu...

Re: It's finally happened...
I never said YOU were showing favoritism, but rather Race Control and the FIA were/Are towards Red Bull. And the overspend was reported to be exactly 1.6% over the cap… That's NOT $400k. The misfiled "Tax credit" doesn't change the percentage by which they exceeded the cap.

Re: It's finally happened...
Coulda Woulda Shoulda... The point is that RB could have claimed a 'research' tax credit that would have written off the vast majority of the overspend. I assume that this was part of the FIA / F1's reasoning when applying the budget overspend sanction. So what you're saying is they overspent by X ...

After some deliberation, I'm ready to put in my votes. With that out of the way: --- 1. Jim Clark An easy pick for me, ...

Ricciardo for De Vries is a considerable upgrade IMO. And he gets ever so closer to knocking Perez off now of that second RB seat for next year, provided offcourse he still has that belief within him. As for De Vries, he has shown poor race craft for an experienced racer but more importantly he has...

Will be interesting to see how he comes back. Are we getting the DR that humbled Seb, and was a match for (younger and less complete) Max..... Or the DR that flopped badly at McLaren. I don't think DR's performance at McLaren was a true reflection of where he is as a driver. I don't think Max is an...

I found his remark confusing, you didn't. I initially thought Brutknort might mean Monza '21 and Brazil '21, but at Brazil he hadn't got a penalty. Yep, that's fair enough. And a lot has changed since 2021, most notably the desperation to become a World Champion. IMO, Clark is largely overrated because of his statistics. He is the embodiment of natural racing talent but Clark himself didn't really understand why he was fast. I don’t recognize him as a legitimate “Champion” as he’s not done it himself cleanly just yet, and sadly, this year’s car is a carry over from last year’s car which was developed via Red Bull’s illegal overspend so for me it’s another asterisk on Verstappen’s “Championships”.
