Re: 2021 British Grand Prix FP & Qualy/Sprint Thread
I'm starting to see why some are wondering if Lewis will even achieve 100 wins this year. Surely luck will give him a couple but I can't see him earning any outright in a straight battle. I think it is a bit of overreaction. Max is fast, but he isn't 1.1 seconds faster than Perez. Likewise - the Me...

Re: 2021 British Grand Prix FP & Qualy/Sprint Thread
On a Friday Mercedes seem to run higher engine modes/lower fuel than Red Bull, if that’s the case today then, gulp. Red Bull usually go more aggressive on a Saturday morning, perhaps they’ve gone aggressive here with this being the only qualifying sims. Hamilton sounded shocked by the the 0.7 gap. ...

Re: "Formula 1 boss Ross Brawn says hydrogen could be future fuel"
I welcome Brawns comments - A fuel like hydrogen makes more sense. Currently there isnt really a green alternative for high powered motorsport, or for heavy road haulage. The issue with electric, isn't how it drives - an electric motor is a vastly superior way of generating kinetic energy compared ...

Re: Uncharacteristic errors from Hamilton and Verstappen
Anyway, we are digressing massively now. On topic - first time Max has a car capable of challenging, and he's showing them how it's done. It's you that came up with this timeline for determining when we can consider who was the best driver, me personally I would look at a driver's complete career, ...

The time Verstappen had 5 years in the sport... you missed that one out. He is not at the level of Senna or Schumacher. But Schumacher and Senna had a title challenging and winning cars by then. So context is everything. Verstappen has not had a car even remotely capable of challenging for the titl...

But then Schumacher was 32-32 with Irvine after Silverstone 1999. The guy saying "context is everything" comes up with this... :uhoh: Peak whataboutism, as Alienturnedhuman would say if this argument was made against Hamilton. That was exactly my point. All the great drivers lost a season or more d...

Re: Uncharacteristic errors from Hamilton and Verstappen
Or Schumacher would have ended Senna's career (it was 3-0 to Schumacher before the unfortunate events at Imola) and taken the crown for himself, making his own legacy even greater - we just don't know what we don't know. I'd say given what we know about the competitive order from 1994-1996, I recko...

Re: Uncharacteristic errors from Hamilton and Verstappen
Yeah 5 years can be seen as a somewhat made up number to determine the merits of a driver, it coincides with Hamilton's horrendous season in 2011 and Senna winning his first title in 1988 so we will set it up as some kind of standard. Of course it means nothing, Hamilton gave the reigning double wo...

No GOAT driver has ever been in such a situation after a decade in the sport. Schumacher would have been had Senna lived. The problem is that all time great candidates rarely overlap in careers: Ascari died before a proper battle with Fangio, Clark died before a proper battle with Stewart, Senna di...

One for the grammar enthusiasts... " Was Red Bull... " or " Were Red Bull..." ? Hmm - I think "was" is correct in this case, as the sentence is "Was (the) Red Bull (team/car) better...". Now if the poster meant Red Bull "team members", then I suppose one would go with "were", but it looks unlikely ...

Based on just over 1000 households, F1 is not really that popular, that's such a low data set, surely they must rely on something more substantial than that? Prediction for this sprint qualifying/race thing, or 'the sprint' as The Race expect it to be termed: One of the top teams' drivers (Red Bull/Merc) is going to get punted off at turn one by an over optimistic move from a midfield driver, and there will be a lot of debate/outrage in the aftermath as...

Max has been brilliant this year but it's nothing i wasn't expecting. Lando seems to have gone to a new, very high level which has taken me by surprise. I'd go for Lando so far this season by a smidge. Isn't that penalizing Verstappen based on your own expectation of him being excellent? Unless you...

While Norris has performed very well, no doubt, it is Ricciardo's lack of pace that is massively flattering him. FWIW, I personally think Leclerc's lap in Monaco and especially Baku was more impressive than Norris in Austria qualy.

So Aston Martin hiring a bunch of senior technical folks is making the news recently.
