Re: Is Alonso going to quit?
Top teams keep offering seats to Alonso but I doubt they want the turmoil that comes with signing him. Alonso requires a team that treats him like the king he thinks he is. It's no surprise that he won his two titles with Briatore, who treated him just like that. When he left for McLaren and Ron De...

Re: 2017 Chinese Grand Prix Practice & Qualifying Thread
Mercedes is still the car to beat in qualifying. Hopefully Ferrari can mount a challenge. They looked quite even here. Maybe Merc has a qualifying edge but I'm not entirely sure. Ham's lap looked quite faultless although the car itself was still not always compliant. Bottas wasn't exactly much slow...

Shame that the other teams were so far behind in quali, but at least Merc and Ferrari were close!

Re: Brawn/new ownership want more tight/wheel to wheel racin
F1 has never been about wheel to wheel racing and will never be! Uh, so the wheel to wheel battles through all those years must have been fake, or from another racing class. 2010-2013 was so full of wheel to wheel racing thanks to the regulations to encourage it, and besides Red Bull domination in ...

I really don't understand why some people think driver conflict adds to anything. All the idiotic shenanigans at Mercedes these last few years have been an irritant. Really don't want to see that back again As to more races, I believe I remember Brawn mentioning sometime ago it could be fairly easi...

It's gonna be close. Merc have the edge in qualy but the race might be closer. Based on the numbers, I come to the opposite conclusion. Mercedes stronger in race trim IMO. Ferrari need to out-qualify Mercedes to win races barring strategic/pit-stop errors. I sincerely hope you're wrong! Another dom...

Re: Alonso - "F1 was boring in the days of Prost/Senna"
To make it 9 wins for Barrichello you would have to assume two things - 1. Button would not have beaten him on any of those occasions 2. Schumacher in the BAR would not have beaten him on any of those occasions. Two fairly massive assumptions. I think the BAR was probably closer to the ultimate pac...

Re: Alonso - "F1 was boring in the days of Prost/Senna"
The racing in the 2000's were largely boring, Trulli train etc, the cars may have been more exciting to drive in the V10 era for the drivers but for the fans the races were largely a borefest, and of course we also had the domination of Schumacher and Ferrari plus the terrible qualifying formats of...

Re: Potential disciplinary action against Hamilton by Merced
Reading the comments by Merc saying they got it wrong in AD, I was quietly pleased that they have seemingly seen some sense. In my view, they were totally out of order to even consider any kind of team orders in that race under those circumstances. FFS, the pair could have crashed out with proper h...

Personally, I think Alonso and Lewis as team mates would become very toxic far more quickly than the Nico/Lewis partnership - which is why I'd be suprised if Merc sign Alonso even if he is contractually available. But I've been very wrong before (Ferrari re-signing Kimi and Alonso going back to Mcl...

Re: Is Bottas really fast enough to go up against Hamilton?
Bottas IMO is a steady, top of 2nd tier driver - ideal for Merc as a No. 2 to Lewis.
I'm more interested in whether Williams are going to make it clear that they have zero aspirations to become a WCC contender next season - as this would be the case if they let Bottas go and end up with 2 rookies.

I will be massively dissapointed if Bottas will get the seat. He seems like a pretty quick and steady driver, but lacks the winner instinct of ALonso/Vettel/Hamilton. He will end up being a good number 2 driver and happy with that. Lets just hope Mercedes doesnt have a dominant car next year, if th...

They did it with max and Rio last year mid season, but I think there is a limit (3?) A team is only allowed to use 4 drivers per season. I've no idea why. The reason was to prevent a team to have a different paydriver each race (so to say, auctioning the seat for each race weekend). It was introduc...

Re: Do you think Alonso would want to go to Mercedes?

So if Fernando joins, Mercedes must fire Hamilton for his dirty tactics in Abu Dhabi and then the...

I’m curious – do people (Lotus49, Zoue, others…) genuinely believe that the change in tyres for 2007 gave more room for improvement for the likes of Alonso and Kimi as the season went on, than if you were a novice, and it was your first season in F1? Mclaren fuelled there cars with the same amount of fuel and whoever was ahead got to pit second, that was what they did in the later season. This was the over cut era, so you went as long as possible until you ran out of fuel, opposite to now. So you can easily tell how much fuel the cars qualified...

Experienced, quick, readily available with a sweet engine deal to Williams, and they get to put Pascal in a decent-ish car for a year to see if he's the real deal.
