It wasn't so inferior in Russia, Hungary, Singapore and Malaysia. Ferrari have had plenty of chances. With Bottas and Massa in the Mercedes, Vettel would have a huge number of poles and would be leading the WDC.KingVoid wrote:It's impossible to win the WDC with a car that is so inferior in qualifying.

Re: 2017 US Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Have you seen Bottas's results since Canada in Q?. It aint pretty and he's leaving over half a second in the car far too often. I just can't see that Vettel has been doing the same. Bottas is self admittedly struggling and all at sea. Using him as the indicator of the cars pace is a bit of a stretc...

Part of me feels like his best bet would be to swap with Sainz and become the main man at Renault rather than attempting to join Mercedes or Ferrari. Ricciardo has nothing to fear from Hamilton if he believes his own hype. He knocked Vettel off his perch, why not Hamilton? Although, I do think avoi...

Why woud one assume a car's true pace is set by the slower driver? :? I'd tentatively suggest that Kimi and Lewis have been outliers this year and skewing the results. Vettel is 10-4 up against Bottas, yet 9-5 down against Hamilton. If we take what we know about Bottas and Vettel and their common l...

IMO Mercedes do not have number1 or number2 as seen with Rosberg last year and change in Mechanics etc ... and in Hungary this year. So he should have given more thought. They need a proven guy, not Ocon ever . FTFY. I think Ocon has ultimately harmed his chances at Mercedes by being very consistently slightly slower than Checo. The Silver Arrows need someone faster than Bottas, not slower or similar. Ricciardo is nailed on for the Mercedes drive in 2019. Hamilton w...

No one would be leading the WDC in the Ferrari after Malaysia and Japan, but I think Ricciardo would be closer. Re: Button on Hamilton and Alonso
The evidence to suggest Alonso is not an A1 qualifier is..... Alonso was beaten 16-15 by Jarno Trulli over one lap in 2003-2004 and 9-8 by Hamilton in 2007. If we exclude Hungary 2007, then he was matched by a very well prepared rookie which suggests that he's very good but not great in qualifying....

Lewis Hamilton was 'weird' as a team-mate, says Jenson Button
I don't think his view is particularly revolutionary. There was always a tension between Hamilton and Button. It's also clear that Mclaren-era Hamilton was repressed nd stifled by Dennis' professional brand.

2008. The screw-ups in 2017 have merely taken Vettel out of contention for the WDC, I doubt he would have won it if he'd won Singapore and Malaysia.

When/if Mercedes sign Max in 2019 is when I think that Lewis will be knocked off his pedestal. I doubt it. Lewis has enjoyed a major incumbency advantage in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2017. Of all the drivers, Kovalainen probably did the best arriving at Hamilton's team. It would take something very spec...
