Re: 2016 Official Canadian Race Thread

Rosberg again excelling after the pressure is off, I dont think we can put this down to coincidence anymore. There's no doubt Rosberg is quick, but he just seem able to mix it in the pack. Great pass on Kimi, but if you bear in mind the difference between tyre ages (17 laps older for Kimi?), then y...

I just get the feeling Lewis is taking it easy to make sure he has some tyre life left to keep Seb behind him at the end.

Re: Lewis defending out of the track

Are the rules specific about the meaning of "gaining an advantage" (assuming they actually use that expression)? As for the rules... “Drivers must make every reasonable effort to use the track at all times and may not deliberately leave the track without a justifiable reason,” says the new wording....

Another thread about this, I think you need to read the race thread to catch up. Oops, sorry, my bad. Still, I'd like to answer Ted's question. Please let us know if it's better to continue the discussion in the other thread. What advantage did he gain? Please be concise with your answer. Keeping R...

Re: Daniel Screwed out of Two Wins on the Trot

I agree a screw up - but one of the worst in F1 history even 1 second more and I think Dan would have been in front of LH - and then LH got lucky with an illegal block and no penalty Amazing, you even manage to get your dig in on a RBR/DR thread. Re: Lewis defending out of the track

I'm quite surprised that nothing was done and barely anything has been said about the fact that Lewis gained an advantage over Ricciardo by going off the track. I'm no expert, but my understanding of the rules is that drivers are not allowed to do that, and if they do they must give up their positi...

Re: Rosberg V Hamilton Crash Debate/Poll [MERGED]

I'm surprised race ban is being floated. Well if nothing else it shows us that we have 15 people on the forum whose hatred for one or other driver is so rabid they lose their capacity for rational thought. Nice (and surprising) to see they're fairly well balanced between Hamilton and Rosberg haters...

Re: Rosberg V Hamilton Crash Debate/Poll [MERGED]

One thing's for sure, we've spent way more man hours thinking/writing about this than the stewards did. They made a collective decision (righly IMO) that no punishment was deserved and knocked up a few words to justify it. It's not like they spent a week debating the issue and making sure the wordin...

Re: Rosberg V Hamilton Crash Debate/Poll [MERGED]

Actually they say they were both equally at fault or they'd have left out the 'wholly or predominantly' part. I think the fact that both crashed out made it easier for the stewards to not go too far into looking at apportioning blame. They also say that car 6 did the one move as per his right. No b...

Re: Rosberg V Hamilton Crash Debate/Poll [MERGED]

The rules do not say that when you get an overlap, the inside car has to leave you space. It just says that you can no longer use the full width of the track. Rosberg did not use the full width of the track. We can all make up our own rules, but the drivers have to go by the FIA rules, and by those...

Re: Rosberg V Hamilton Crash Debate/Poll [MERGED]

^ I think a lot of us have missed (or at least chosen not to mention) how lucky it was that Hamilton didn't make that classic "left front wheel to rear right" tyre contact that launches the following car into the air (a la Villeneuve or Pironi - or Webber but he got away with it). Now what really w...

Re: Rosberg V Hamilton Crash Debate/Poll [MERGED]

A bit confused by the Stewards' statement... 'Car 44 had a portion of his front wing inside Car 6 small fractions of a second prior to Car 44 having to leave the right side of the track to avoid an initial collision, which may have led him to believe he had the right to space on the right.' But in t...

Re: Rosberg V Hamilton Crash Debate/Poll [MERGED]

It all happened so quickly that neither driver could have really made a calculated decision on whether the cars would be side by side (even if only by a small part of Hamilton's wing) by the time Rosberg had moved across to less than one car's width from the track limits. There's a lot of talk here ...

How is Hamilton in fifth? He took a massive shortcut without even trying to follow the track, and gained 5 places by the time he rejoined. It's hurting you isn't it lol. Re: Bottas Hamilton Accident - Who was at fault?

Bottas thought it was his fault. Hamilton thought it was Bottas' fault. The stewards thought it was Bottas' fault. Hell, even some Hamilton Haters on here think it's Bottas' fault. I think that's pretty conclusive. In my mind though, had Hamilton's car not been damaged then Bottas wouldn't have got ...

Did anyone else think Nico went particularly slow round the first bend - braked harder and earlier than he needed to? Backed Lewis into the pack then got lucky that Bottas collected him. So I guess Hamilton's lap would fa...
