Re: 2023 Dutch Grand Prix Race Thread

From the onboard that didn't look great from Verstappen on Gasly. I know he had a lot more pace, but I thought you had to leave space. Cynical brain says it won't even be looked at because of the drivers and the race situation though...

In some ways losing that much time to Max with them both on in clear air on the same strategy is worse for Perez. A bad as failing in qualifying is it at least gives some mitigation for the race.

Delayed again. There's also some burst drains at eau rouge, they might as well just pack it in now.
I doubt that was burst drains, more likely just backing up from the amount of water. If anywhere is going to drain fast it's going to be Eau Rouge.

Re: 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix Race Thread

Russell should be driver of th day over Perez for me With the other car having 33 seconds on the field, anything less than 2nd from pretty much anywhere on the grid probably doesn't really warrant driver of the day. Obviously impossible to tell, but I reckon Max might have won starting from the back.

Re: 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix Race Thread

I'm not sure Perez has the best overtaking technique. Lots of risk in a much faster car. Compare with Alonso setting up Bottas into turn one with no view to actually getting past, just getting a much better run and driving past in the 2nd DRS zone.

Re: 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix Race Thread

Absolutely stupid from Ferrari if they aren't shouting for Leclerc to let Sainz by. What's the point of that strategy if you're going to hold him up? Because it'sa Ferrari. They do things beyond our understanding. It seems like maybe they only expected the soft to be faster than the medium for a fe...

I like the format, so often drivers run out of tyres going into Q3, now they all can do 2 new soft tyre runs.
Yep. Irrespective of the merits of what motivated it I think I quite like it.

Dumb question - on Sky, what determines the order of driver names on the time sheet when no times have yet been posted?
I think it's sector times posted. They seem to roughly rearrange in the order they are on track.

They really don't mind having that Red Bull sat there for a long time.

I'm watching F1 for more than 25 years, I always thought track limits is a very silly thing. On some tracks (like this one) it really comes down to lottery.
