Re: 2019 Australian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Th
Not sure if Mercedes are going to sandbag at all this weekend because .... damn they look even better than last year! Seems like a 2018 repeat. Ferrari strongest in pre-season, maybe they'll even win in Australia but after watching most of FP2, the Merc looks the best by a good enough margin. Logic...

Re: Point for fastest lap
It is just another example of how they try to make the 'competition' element of F1 seem more real. Maybe double points for the last race of the year is in the same category. They have failed to make it attractive by improving the racing enough, so we have DRS, different tyre rules for the top 10 qua...

The big gap may become a bit smaller.
The cars are still way too much of a factor in who wins. The only person you can definitely say a driver in the top 3 teams beat through his skill is his team-mate.

Only the teams themselves know how well they are doing.
Initial testing doesn't show how good the cars are - it only shows which teams are struggling.
It makes you feel better if you big up the other teams if you are a front runner - then you can exceed expectations when the racing starts.

While this article is correct, there are a few things to keep in mind (some brought up in the article already): 1) Hydrogen may not be any more efficient than fossil fuels, but it can be (although is not now) produced from 100% renewable energy, making that efficiency far less important. 2) Battery...

We do have the technology to, in theory, switch to full electric vehicles immediately. What we lack is the infrastructure / support resource. Convert that to the idea of fully electric F1, some form of in-race charging would be required to go a full race distance. That isn't going to happen with a ...

I'm not particularly interested in front wing design - other than to make the racing better. The FIA seems to have made a half-heated attempt to get a 'better racing' result. The 2019 wings are very similar to the 2018 wings, so likely to function similarly.

An advantage with FE is that it is even easier to get to sleep than with the current F1. Renewable fuel doesn't just mean electricity - it could be hydrogen - burn it and you get water. They would need fuel cells that would not result in an explosion or a fireball - but they have that currently. Bat...

Re: The future of F1.
F1 is a sport that has a limited future. Currently it is trying to carry on traditions from a long time ago. That can have value, but I think they have to be selective about what they try to hang on to. Hanging onto circuits and the glamour of F1 helps. In the past F1 was about building faster cars....

Re: Will Bottas Bounce Back in 2019??
Bottas had quite a good start in 2017 - maybe because he used his head and figured out the car a bit earlier than Hamilton. Once Hamilton knew what to do the gap opened up. Since then, the gap has been clear. Bottas has a No.2 driver attitude. Teamed with Hamilton, he is going to stay that way. Wolf...

Something tells me that Lewis will equal but not beat Schumacher's total of 7 drivers championships. If he wins in 2019 and 2020 that will put him at seven and tied with Michael. At that point his contract with Merc is up. He has talked (and there is much speculation about) going to Ferrari to fini...

Re: Is there any doubt anymore about Hamilton vs. Vettel?
I've thought for years that Hamilton is a better driver than Vettel. Hamilton is capable of driving cars in many different ways. When he had a bad car, he could still drive it hard and would tend to get more from it than his team mate. He is also ruthless - which is an advantage in F1. Vettel seems ...

Alonso will serve as a reminder of how much of this sport is about the car you drive rather than the skills of the driver. As such, make no moves to alienate the top teams in the sport, otherwise even one of the best will be regulated to the best of the rest series. I also think that is one of the ...
