Re: Alonso and vettel at Ferrari, will it work?

I think we are arguing over a sidetracking issue. The original query - whether Alonso and Vettel together at Ferrari would work - IMO it would . But for whatever reason - the main one being that both drivers are fiercely competitive - there will be some internal rivalry but at the end of the day the...

Re: Was Schumacher a dirty driver?

Schumacher was undoubtedly one of the most talented drivers to come into F1 and has got the results to show. I would not label him a dirty driver as such but he certainly had a dirty streak in his sporting personality which showed up more than once. The shunts on Hill and Villenueve were the more ob...

Re: Alonso - going downwards from here?

There is no question that Fernando Alonso is a very talented racing driver but he does have an Achllies Heel under pressure which he usually manages to hide with that deadpan expression of his. What I suspected before was a little more obvious in the final few races in 2012 - that under pressure Alo...

Re: What would you personally do in Vettel's situation?

When it comes down to it, stats matter more than most other things in the long run. You're right, but with some drivers - as with many other competitors - what they feel about themselves in comparsion with their contemporaries is imprortant. IMO Vettel is one of them. He will want the challenge and...

Re: Alonso and vettel at Ferrari, will it work?

I don't think so either. Alonso will be at the Scuderia for 4 seasons if Vettel would go there in 2015. Alonso surely will want the nr 1 status. Vettel being a triple WDC at least however would want equal treatment. By the time Vettel goes to Ferrari (in 2015, I believe) he is almost certainly goin...

Re: Alonso and vettel at Ferrari, will it work?

Depends on one's definition of "work". IMO, Alonso & Vettel at Ferrari will result on one of them - more likely Vettel IMO - ending up WDC and the team getting WCC. To that extent it will work very well. But there will be constant rivalry and friction between the teammates, perhaps even words exchan...

I'd like to see BMW back in F1. I think the way BMW design their road cars, it is a shame that they are not regularly in F1.They can challenge Ferrari & Mercedes for raw speed and coupled with a well-designed car body, they can be potential winners.

Re: What would you personally do in Vettel's situation?

A great driver can't do much with an OK car. Look at Alonso. Competitive drivers want to win, and Vettel's best chance of winning is at Red Bull. It's a no-brainer. I see your point but I still feel that Alonso could have won more with that Ferrari. I know it appears like he is dragging everything ...

When the Red Bull powerhouse starts to lose its footing I would jump ship, look for a new team - a new feeling & new experience. Looking back at Hamilton in particular, however, I believe that the reason he did so well in comparison to Alonso was that Nando came to McLaren not with the slightest inkling of being troubled by his rookie team-mate. And probably felt Hammy would be subservient. He had no idea what Hammy could do...

Of the two, I thought that Ricciardo started faster but seemed rather erratic. Vergne took his time but towards the end of the season seemed to be steadier of the two. IMO, the Frenchman has the better chance of making the senior team.

He will not even beat Button in the final points tally. Perez is good but a triofle over-ambitious. Furthermore, he is facing tough opposition - Button in a similar car, Vettel in the RB9, Alonso in his Ferrari, Raikkonen in the Lotus and Hamilton/Rosberg at Mercedes.

What I'm not clear on, is whether Alonso went too defensive this year during the final races or not. The fact is that Massa was the quicker of the two drivers in the races. 'Great' in F1 is difficult to define in comparative terms for drivers in different eras. Fangio, acknowledged as a great driver, drove under totally different conditions, set of rules and quality of opposition in the 1950s compared with Vettel some 60 years later. Hamilton is taking all the pressure off himself for 2013 when it comes to title chances, which is good, since thats when he seems to drive his best. Yes, but the new points system was introduced intentionally to reward wins over consistency. It would be unfair if Alonso won the championship with 3 race wins over Vettel's 5 wins. Not just that - the 10, 8, 6 system never looked right because P2 & P3 were too close to P1. IMO, 10, 7, 5,...

Merc get a WDC on board who realistically has a much higher chance of another WDC than Nico has of his first WDC, so obviously they are going to say anything they can to get their main driver all pumped up and excited to be with, what is in actual fact a rather mediocre team. I don't think Brawn's comments were meant to sideline Rosberg, who has been with team for a while and knows the ins & outs. Brawn might simply have been trying to give Hamilton some encouragement considering Mercedes' relatively poor showing in 2012.

Vettel himself never speaks of beating another driver's records, whatever they are. He always concentrates on the season at hand and then the race at hand. That is a good sign but only time will tell.
