Re: The tyres.. All the time the tyres!
My opinion is that this tyre thing is primarily about the Americanisation of the sport. I actually enjoyed the tension when one driver was trying to pass another. I loved watching Montoya pass Michael Schumacher in Brazil in 2001 even though I was a Schumacher fan. 90% of the passes now are not even...

Get rid of tyre blankets in F1
My take on it is that the current tyre situation is unfair for some drivers. Yes, some drivers are going to be adaptable than others when it comes to different constraints, but on some level, the tyre situation is forcing drivers to fundamentally change the way they have driven all their lives, and ...

Chess or F1?
Just watching GP Uncovered on the F1 channel, and I was quite interested in what Mark said about the tyre situation. Basically, drivers are having to tiptoe around the circuit to conserve tyres instead of flat out racing, and this can lead to confusion. In this case, there is a possibility that Vett...

Alonso has more respect because he beat Schumi straight up in 05 and 06 in a car many think was not as good as the ferrari, maybe equal. alonso and schumi had some great head to head battles. vettel won the 2010 championship after making many silly mistakes that season himself, but his car was so g...

Re: How well would Vettel have done in Ferrari's F2012?
My opinion is that Alonso dragged a car that was fourth best into a title fight. I consider what he did in 2012 as a great drive, and made him a worthy candidate for "driver of the year". It was one of the greatest drives of all time, despite falling short in the title chase. Vettel, despite his ma...

I am a Kimi fan, but there is no way anyone other than Schumacher deserved the title in 2003. The tragedy would have been Raikonnen winning the WDC with a single race win, and Schumi losing it with 6 races wins. The points system was pants, and good riddance.

Re: Alonso 'has problems' when he loses - Marko
Aren't they all bad losers? I remember Vettel crying after Jenson won in 2009. Then in a formula1.com interview he went on to say he hates losing and Red Bull should have won that year. I don't think you get to F1 level if you're ok with losing. Did Vettel say they deserved to win, or that they sho...

Re: Who's better: Alonso or Vettel?, by Victor Martins
Alonso needed luck in Brazil to win the championship, and he almost got it. Yes, Vettel might have been lucky to not have crashed out of the race, but he would rather not have crashed and spent the whole racing nursing a stricken car. On a side note, anyone else drives a car having lost part of the ...

Re: Alonso's luck in 2012
Math is hard! I will try to explain superuser's point. An F1 race is not like a maths test, where everyone can score maximum points. It's the very definition of a zero sum game, where every point you win, you also take from your competitor. So retiring from the lead of a GP means you lose more than ...

Alonso and Ham have already said it - It is Newey winning the races silly. If forumers out here think they know better, I am happy to leave them alone. Re: Do the fans dislike dominant Cars?
Some times when a team has a dominant car, they allow them to race each other, at least until a set point in the race or season. I think the 'boredom' with Red Bull is that there was only ever one car in it. Like the Schuie days at Ferrari Had Webber been challenging more often it may not have been...

Re: So.. has Massa FINALLY recovered from his accident?
I have a theory. I think Massa is a driver who is slow to adapt to a new style of car, but once he is comfortable with the car, can be as fast as, if not faster than anyone. The problem for Massa is that testing is now severely limited, so he does not have as much of an opportunity to hone his skill...

The fact the JB has been behind both RBRs has not eluded me. JB has been pants in qualifying this season. He has trouble warming up the tyres and this is possibly due to his driving style. A while ago I posted on the myth of the slow Ferrari. I think it is about time to address the other pervasive myth - the myth of the super fast Red Bull. All the FIA has to do is to make the gearbox penalty revokable if the stewards feel like it. This way, they could always reinstate cars in their original position if they feel a team is trying to take advantage and essentially force them to start from the pit lane if they really have to change their...

Re: Pirelli to be more agressive in 2013
My problem with the tyres isn't with some drivers wearing them out faster than others. It's about the drivers needing to "switch on" the tyres. This, more than anything else, is what favours one driving style above another. If a driver cannot keep tyres temperatures within a specific window, the per...

More impressive than the Ferrari top speed is Alonso's ability on the first lap. One of the most defining things about this year's championship is the myth of the Ferrari. Webber should have just indicated to the team where he would let him pass. All he had to do was say," I will let him pass in the DRS zone", which has the added benefit of giving your team mate a bit of help. While I get that he is a proud man, I think when he wakes up tomorrow, he will realise that ...
