Re: 2018 Singapore Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thr
That was some lap from Hamilton. Verstapen too. It seems an ideal setup for a fun race tomorrow given that Ferrari have more pace than they showed there. Vettel will have to match Hamiltons Monza start and be aggresive, forget last year. For elite level drivers such as the top three today, every so ...

Re: Leclerc confirmed at Ferrari; Kimi returning to Sauber
It is both a massive opportunity and a massive challenge for Charles. If he is comfortably off the pace of Vettel consistently then it will be hard to break that cycle. He has to work so so hard in pre season because 2019 probably dictates the remainder of his F1 career. If he is immediately quick t...

Re: Leclerc confirmed at Ferrari; Kimi returning to Sauber
All that ignores the fact that Vettel hates to be beaten, it also kind of ignores Ricciardo not being signed by Ferrari for next year. Everyone hates to be beaten. Ricciardo is too old to start in Ferrari, who obviously needs a young blood. Let's not forget that Binachi would have already some 3 se...

Re: Leclerc confirmed at Ferrari; Kimi returning to Sauber
Most of the races where Marcus has got close to Leclerc down to Leclerc being a victim of his own success. Charles often finds himself scrapping with drivers in better equipment which has allowed Ericsson to get closer than he otherwise would.

Agree on everything that has been said here!... :) I love Kimi too bits, but he's not challenged Vettel or won any races sinces going back to Ferrari again. That surprises me a lot!! 8O Have no doubt that Leclerc will win several races over a couple of years and with that in mind, Ferrari will alre...

Re: Leclerc confirmed at Ferrari; Kimi returning to Sauber
If the rumour that the Kimi to Sauber deal was negotiated totally independently of Ferrari is true then that has some ramifications for Sauber's future relationship with Ferrari. What does this mean for the future of Giovanazzi? If both Sauber and Haas are determined to do things their own way with ...

Re: Generational Turnover in F1
In the mid 90s to early 2000s I certainly feel there was a bit of a sparsity of great talent on the grid outside Schumacher and Hakkinen until Raikkonen and Alonso really emerged in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Greats like Senna, Mansell and Prost had departed, the lower Formula's weren't what they a...

Re: Kvyat to Toro Rosso?... says Giovanazzi has another seat
Torro Rosso would certainly have a fair few more points this season if Kvyat had been there instead of Hartley. I disagree. Kvyat scored 5 whole points last season. His team mate scored 48 in the same period This season Harltey has 2 points and his team mate has 28. Kvyat may have scored the odd po...

Re: Silly Season 2019
Torro Rosso will surely have two seats available for next season. Hartley seems incredibly unlikely to be retained. Given the lack of Junior drivers from the RB programme who are ready, I imagine two out of Kvyat/Buemi/Vergne will fill the seats. There is a chance Vandoorne could get in at Torro Ros...

The best decision for Ferrari's future is to move Leclerc to Ferrari and Giovanazzi to Sauber or possibly Haas. There is no room for sentiment in F1. This is just nonsense. Re: [Merged] Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition
Singapore was the turning point for Vettel in both 2010 and 2012, the race where he stopped messing around and made a comeback from 40 points behind to take the title. I don’t think the same will happen this year though. Right now Vettel is not in a good place mentally. Vettel is generally pretty g...

Re: 2018 Belgian Grand Prix Race Thread

Re: 2018 Belgian Grand Prix Race Thread
The performance of the Honda powered Torro Rosso and Pierre Gasly must give Red Bull some comfort for next season. Poor Danny Ric must just want this season to end. Quite easy for me. Vettel, Perez with honorable mentions for Gasly and Grosjean. Botts recovered well, but he could have easily ended his race with that earlier error. This wasn't an especially eye catching recovery drive all things considered.

It must have been a slightly humbling experience for Ocon. Perez had his number on this occasion. Gasly looked a level or two above Hartley who at least rear gunned manfully when asked. It was a very difficult one for the Renault team, next race won't be easy either. They could come under pressure f...

It is difficult to see a path for victory for Mercedes really barring weather calamity. That Ferrari has looked so good in the dry. Re: Alonso's legacy in F1
The biggest blot on his copybook is his mental disintegration against Hamilton in 2007. I don't think he did disintegrate mentally against Hamilton - despite being frozen out of the team he still matched Lewis on points and would have beaten him but for his moment of bad luck in Japan. I believe he...

Stoffel has had a touch of luck there as he was almost certainly out the door had Alonso stayed another year. As it stands now Mclaren won't want to go into 2019 with a totally new driver lineup. It's the right call from Fernando. The Mclaren gamble hasn't paid off. I can understand him trying this season out, as he was looking to see if Mclaren could show this season that they could be competitive for 2019. Sadly they still look years away from being competitive.

The return to flaky rubber would be an awful backwards step. F1 should be the pinnacle of motorsport, but drivers tiptoeing around 8 seconds off of qualifying pace is the exact opposite of that. I know tyre management is a skill in itself, but it isn't what the best drivers in the world should have ...

I would expect Mercedes to be competitive at Monza and Spa. Hamilton will have to be on top of his game for the rest of the season to maintain that lead.
Last season it was after Hungary that Ferrari fell apart somewhat. They may need the reverse to happen this year.
