The same reason that they wanted Webber. He is fast, reliable & grown up. Fast enough to push Alonso, reliable enough to help win a drivers and manufacturers championship and grown up enough to navigate the politics.poverty wrote:Why would Ferrari want button?

Seems like hot air to me.
I think it's more likely that Button would go to ferrari. I think that would be a good fit actually.

Re: So, Ferrari's 2014 line-up?
Yesterday I thought that the drive would either go to Massa or to Nico Hulkenberg. Today I am wodering if Di Resta might actually have a shout. It's strange how one can change opinions on a coin but all of a sudden I think that if I ran Ferrari that DR might be my preference. It does seem like the g...

Re: Webbers gone! (Blank) In.
I'm not a huge MW fan ( I think he's nearly as fast as the fastest, hard working and a decent bloke) but I think it's a shame in some ways, if only because his rivalry with SV makes things interesting at times. But what I think is a shame is that he is probably passing up an opportunity to partner A...

Exactly. Pretty simple. Give him the best car and he'll win. 2nd best car and he will get close and could still squeek itRacingFan1 wrote:It all depends of the cars, if he gets a car as good as the Red Bull of the past years, I have no doubts he will win.

Many people follow the drivers. Probably a lot choose base upon nationality. I'd say it's quite a Nationalistic following overall. Same also goes for the teams to a certain extent. Re: If the drivers are going so slowly....
How much slower are they driving? What are the lap times compared to qualifying? If they really are driving several seconds a lap slower to conserve their tyres why doesn't one of the back markers just go for it for a few laps, even if they have to pit for fresh rubber in a couple of laps. For fun, ...

Like evrything that is competitive, it is all about that fine margin. The last 1%. So a win is a win and is deserved however small the margin. Over a season or career it's about much more than being quick. Including a little bit of luck. Villeneuve certainly inherited his father's lack of fear and r...

How about comparing Villeneuve to Fittipaldi in that they both started up new teams (slight difference in that Emerson started his own team). They both threw away potential future championships. What would Jaques have done if he hadn't gone to BAR?

As someone who has been watching since the 1980's, I'd have to say they are exactly alike. I remember in the late 1990's thinking JV is the fastest man on the grid bar none...if he could just avoid the Red mist he would be at least a triple WDC. Terrible comparison. Lewis has had a few off moments but has had a sustained top class career so far. I would say that he has driven the balls off every car he has been in and shows no signs of slowing down. I will be very surprised if he doesn't win at least one more championship. Jaques was fast f...

Do yourself a favour and find the film '1' . I don't think it has come out yet. That's the documentary on Formula 1 that showed at the Austin GP last year. Re: 2009: What if?
Nobody is denying that he was "A good driver but not a top one", but you shouldn't try to summarise his whole career with Ferrari on one race. Barrichello versed Schumacher as a team-mate in 102 events and on his day was able to challenge Michael. You've provided the 2000 Japanese Grand Prix - a ch...

You race true to yourself. Whatever the style. Yes, very zen, but the racing spirit seems to get drivers noticed and helps their career. Lewis is racy, as is Alonso, Vettel, Kimi. The only top current smooth styled driver (IMO) is Jenson and he gets accused of not being as quick. I see that happeni...

Re: Is it better to be ragged and racy or smooth and consist
I don't think you can compare Di Resta with Perez. Perez took on every battle with cars that were within the same strategy as him. Di Resta was on a rare strategy and was a loner for a good part of the race. Romain was way faster than him and there was no point. I suppose the point is simply to sho...

Is it better to be ragged and racy or smooth and consistent?
At Bahrain we say Perez push himself, the car and those around him very hard. To me that showed a fighting spirit and is very entartaining to watch. Button felt that he was pushing too hard. Di Resta drove a great race but unspectacular in style. He let cars past who he felt he could not contend wit...

Look out for the documentary '1' that should be coming out soon too. An early cut of it was screened in Austin on the GP week-end in November. Re: Could Massa be a threat to Alonso?
He can , he has the raw pace and when in the zone , better I'd say. The one caveat is he apparently needs more hand holding to get more out of the car. Last weekend's radio message put that point well into perspective. The problem is Ferrari, clear number one driver strategy doesn't bode well for h...

Alonso is faster than Massa in a race, almost every time. But what if? It is so early in the season, what if Massa is just in front of Alonso towards the end of the race? Massa is unlikely (or less likely anyway) to put together a campaign over the whole season but, as everyone here rightly points o...

Kimi, followed by Button IMO.
What if those two were defined as tier 2 (they are world champions after all).

I am surprised by his lack of charm and respect. And from someone who seems so corporate. But I can't actually think of one big stand out moment from him, can you? Maybe a few 'solid' drives. I am sure that he is quite fast but life in F1 is about a little more than that. Why aren't sponsors falling...
