Re: Safety cars
Another suggestion I heard was "Amber Flag" to be used where the expected time is say less than 10 mins. Cars immediately go to the grid, keeping position, drivers stay in cars. Intention is race will race will restart in 10 mins unless full Red Flag as incident is taking longer to clear. Problem t...

Re: 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
I can't see RBR deliberately underfuelling the car. They will have considered all the mathematically possible scenarios, including this one: Max & Lewis collide. Max can't continue. Lewis continues with damage and drops to 10th or 11th place. Red Bull would definitely need Perez in it to the end in ...

Re: Mercedes Lodge Multiple Protests Against Result
Let’s wait and see what information comes out, if it transpires that Masi was heavily influenced by Red Bull to make this decision that might “change” (not sure of his opinion) Hamiltons view. A full inquiry and timeline of how this was possible is the absolute minimum. Which should conclude at a m...

I assume that you are being deliberately obtuse (?) If it's an assumption, what's the question mark for? Why is the question mark in parentheses? I assume you are unfamiliar with the use of punctuation. I can infer by context that you are using the word obtuse to mean slow to understand. How could ...

Here's what really saddens me: Unbelievable season. Two team principals spitting venom at each other. Two immensely talented rivals on the track, the old master and the rising star, giving it all they've got. Highs, lows, incredible fightbacks, fortunes up and down like a yo-yo on steroids, controve...

Re: 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
The last two posts were well explained, helped clarify things. And that's why it doesn't matter if Lewis pitted or not. There were not enough laps to allow all lapped cars to pass + SC coming in + get a clean one lap race. If they wanted to get the race in, they could have left the lapped cars as t...

Re: 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
Thanks for clarifying. So - the choices were release the SC for the final lap and Verstappen has to pass lapped cars as well as Hamilton or finish the race under the SC. Is that about it? That's the way I read it. He doesn't have to let lapped cars go by, but if he does he can't, IMV, pick and choo...

Re: 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
If the lapped cars had been allowed to unlap themselves promptly we may well have had a racing lap at the end under the correct procedure. The outcome would have been the same, just the controversy avoided. The initial message that lapped cars would not unlap themselves delayed this and led to race...

Given the way the regulations and steward's dismissal are worded I doubt it will be the lawyers telling them to drop it. Anyone but Merc to win the constructors'. (Nothing against them and they deserve what they've achieved, but eight in a row frankly means the others aren't trying as hard.) Re: Will lewis retire after the seasons over if he collects is 8th title. ?
I'm surprised by that comment from DC. His bio says he began karting at age 11, which would be 1982, and that he moved to Formula Ford in 1989. So he braked with his left foot for seven years. And it's sort of easier in a full on racing car than in a kart, even with the added complication of a clutc...

Surely what matters when overtaking is the downforce relative to the car in front, and not the downforce relative to a car that ceased competing at the end of the previous season? Yes, of course, but on that particular point I was talking about following closely, not overtaking. For clarity, I mean...

A further thought on the big wheels: The pit stops are going to have to be no-mistakes-ever precise because errors will be magnified compared to the smaller wheel: Imagine a see-saw that's 13 feet long and you introduce a slight imbalance somewhere near the middle. The ends of the see-saw will move,...

One of the main selling points is the solution-we-hope to the "dirty air" problem. Yes, the current cars lose up to half their downforce when following closely, yes the new cars are projected to lose only about 15% of their downforce when following two car lengths behind... but that's at least parti...

The people that sent stuff like that to Latifi don't deserve to have someone else apologising for their actions. I'm saying he should apologise for his . Whatever option is chosen, the SC will generally create a situation where some drivers are advantaged and some disadvantaged. I can't think of any 'perfect' solution. How about abolish the SC? Just don't use it. The VSC (usually) maintains the race order and the gaps that drivers have built. If the...

Biggest mistake Mercedes made this year was leaving Bottas in place after he lost his seat. Wolf also tried to influence Masi in AD by lobbying for the SC not to be brought out to clear up Giovinazzi. I suspect Masi's role will be very quietly altered in the near future though and I imagine we won't be hearing him in broadcasts again. I don't like the VSC rules where you have to slow down to 40% and maintain your deficit to the driver in front. Driver should be able to pull up all the way behind each other. I don't see how this is preferable. The VSC maintains the gaps(ish) so the race is on hold before resuming to the status qu...
