Re: Ricciardo vs Verstappen 2016-2018 Revisited

I guess there’s a question of how different would 2021 been has Ricciardo still been at Red Bull. Would it have helped or hindered Verstappen? I think Ricciardo would have almost certainly beat Verstappen in qualifying and the race 3-5 times which would probably been just enough for Hamilton to win...

Re: 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread

I don't really understand the big deal about preserving gaps over SC/Red flag conditons. I think the possibility that the gaps are removed adds a certain strategic element to the races as the teams/drivers are able to either gamble or play it safe when it comes to the pace they are setting, the tim...

Re: 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread

I assumed the red flag was for debris rather than concerns over tyres, so fair enough if so. *they should still get rid of the standing start after a red flag rule though, that's entertainment over sport. They should get rid of SC. Always do red flag (maybe keep VSC for small incidents). Then do ro...

The biggest surprise for me here is how wide the gap is in the races. If I’d have guessed I’d have put the qualifying result closer to the actual race result and race result closer to the actual qualifying result.

Re: 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread

Last year's race was a classic case of entertainment over sport. The red flag was a nonsense, the race could have easily finished under safety car. Not sure on that one. Verstappen would have been cleared for a race start after the SC. They red flagged it because of concerns over the tyres. Red fla...

Charles Pic vs Giedo Van Der Garde?

Edit to add serious answer: I agree with ATH that Ricciardo vs Verstappen is probably the best for context on current grid but I’m kinda interested by Magnussen vs Grosjean. The Haas was so bad and unreliable at times that it was impossible to follow.

Despite the points tally Ricciardo was clearly the better driver but it's still seen as a weak year for Ricciardo, Gasly would later look more convincing against Kvyat. I'm not sure he did in 2020...
