Basically the only options Red Bull have is potentially one of the Mercedes drivers. If I was them I'd try and tempt Bottas from under Mercedes nose. destabilise them by forcing them into taking Russell. Would they not be shooting themselves in the foot? There's very little information reported as yet, so I think out of respect we should refrain from speculating about the details.

The question is. Are aston Martin going to threaten legal action every time they are found to have cheated or in this case. Not have enough fuel in the car. For example. Imagine they can extract the fuel from the car. Then what. The difference is when the fuel is "extracted" from the car a week tom...

With all the rumours and hype, if Bottas stays at Mercedes there are going to be a lot of deflated F1 fans. Any chance of an appeal to the FIA again by Red Bull against the dismissal of their appeal by the FIA? Unlikely. They would have to take it outside the FIA and appeal to an actual court to overturn the decision. Usually in motorsport there is only once chance for review/appeal. That is now exhauste...

I agree, never say never. Jenson Button was a surprise WDC in 2009. I don't think anyone ever doubted him, but until he was in that BrawnGP a driver's title looked like a distant prospect. Kind of weird to see this thread just after he qualified 2 thousandths of a second off Lando at the last GP. His race pace wasn't quite there but that's actually a reversal of previous GPs. I think the sprint was too many laps. It was exciting for the first few laps but then died down as the field spread and drivers started to think about getting tyres to the end.
Give them high grip tyres and a 10 lap race. Then it's a proper sprint.

Re: Did Alpine make a mistake extending Ocon's contract?
I was surprised they did it so quickly after seeing how he compared to Ricciardo in 2020 (poorly).
Alonso took some time to get on top of the Alpine, but now that he has it is a similar story.
I think there were probably some good options elsewhere (e.g. Gasly, Piastri).

I'm not sure they did in any season. I think Mercedes were SO far ahead because the engine was better, but also they had got the aerodynamics right. I don't put much value on fastest laps as a comparison tool. The way the current tyre regulations are, whoever is on the best set (softest and freshest) tyres late in the race will probably set the fastest lap. Not sure what to think about Ricciardo. Austria isn't a particularly technical track, and it is short. Yet again Norris fastest lap was more than 1s quicker than Ricciardo, he didn't make a bad start but wasn't aggressive enough into turn 1 which allowed a Ricciardo dive bomb down the outside forcing him to back up behind a Ferrari and lose momentum allowing Alonso past. Norris is doing really well,...

I think the teams were caught out by the tyre degradation and just how much faster it was to do a later pit stop or a second stop.
So some drivers may have been looking like stars when really it was just better strategy.

Ricciardo is still living off the hype of 2014 when he beat Vettel. The following year Kvyat beat him. Not sure the fastest lap of a race like this really means much. They are driving to manage the tyres, not pull every thousandth of a second out of the car like in qualifying. You don't.
It's the Monaco Grand Prix and every year a few people whinge, but tv viewers still tune in, spectators turn up, sponsors spend big and the show rolls on.
I think it just needs to be accepted for what it is.
It rewards good qualifiers with millimetre precision and well setup cars.

Lando is good, but he's not a second faster than Ricciardo. That is a massive gap and can't be explained by settling in or driver skill.
