Re: What do you make of Nelson Piquet Jr?
An awful lot of 'holier than Nelson Piquet Jnr.' going on in this thread. Definitely better than people are giving him credit for. 2nd at Hockenheim, safety car or not, beating Alonso at Magny-Cours fair and square, and finishing a fine fourth at Fuji in his debut season implies he wasn't completely...

Re: Let's speak our minds (the honesty thread).
If Lewis Hamilton had never made it into Formula 1, there would be alot more people saying Jenson Button is the best talent in Formula 1 right now. Fernando Alonso fans like to big up Lewis Hamilton, because of 2007, to make their driver look better. Lewis Hamilton fans like to big up Fernando Alons...

Re: Where do you rate Jenson Button
I voted one of the best of the current generation. Always been a very fast driver, doesn't get into trouble too much, his overtakes are generally decisive and precise. Brilliant season in 2004, albeit in a very good car, definitely championship material if not for the F2004 being so utterly dominant...

That's right, the wheel came off after that dodgy pitstop, so I probably should have realised he wouldn't have been in the lead

Re: Alonso "inheriting" leads and winning
He retired from the lead in Belgium '04, and was he leading when his wheel came off at Hungary '09, or was Hamilton already past him? (Not that he was ever really in with a shout of winning that one)

Re: Alonso "inheriting" leads and winning
Yes, Kimi was romping away (9 seconds?) until his driveshaft failed (lap 12?) at Imola '05.
Edit: Turns out it was what I originally thought, he retired on lap 9!!

Time penalties or grid drops for quali?
Having read the confusion as to whether pole position would be counted for Schumacher or Webber yesterday, and Hamilton or Maldonado two weeks ago, which punishment would you rather see being applied? It seems all the confusion stems from a driver being able to have the fastest time in qualifying, b...

Re: The peril of judging a driver on statistics
I think, in terms of statistics, a poor driver can't have great statistics. If someone has a lot of victories or WDCs, then it's a pretty safe bet that they'll have been a good driver. But a great driver CAN have poor statistics. Moss is an example of this, I think a lot of people would argue that a...

That's another example of people making Alonso out to be some kind of superhuman. Ferrari have the 10th best car? That's just ridiculous. The guy's good, but really... I couldn't say who the BEST qualifier is, but I'd give a shout out to Maldonado for his qualifying performances, he generally stacks...

Not enough respect for drivers today?
Having followed the other thread about Alonso's recent respect comments, and watching the 1991 and 1996 Spanish Grand Prixs, it got me thinking are drivers today less respected than drivers from the 80's and 90's were? It seems to me that drivers today are under so much scrutiny that they get crucif...

Re: Bernie considering "Grand Slam" races with more points
As ridiculous as I think this idea is, I can already see an advantage to having "Grand Slam" races. Say 5 races are picked out at random on January 1st, and they're Silverstone, Marina Bay, Monte Carlo, Monza and Abu Dhabi. Because they've been picked out so early, you'll have McLaren, Ferrari and R...

I was at the 2005 British Grand Prix, and believe me, V8's sound NOWHERE NEAR as good as the V10's did, they just sounded soo much louder and richer I thought. Properly miss the V10's

Good catch SchumieRules!! I got that fact from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_Formula_One_season.
So going from what both pages say, I can only assume the 1976 season was the first time nobody such as a spectator or marshal had died on track.

When you go to the toilet, you say your either going for a a splash and dash (a tinkle) or a long middle stint (a dump) When you go out, your dance moves consist of Formula 1 drivers victory celebration (the Vettel finger, the Schumacher jump, the Alonso chest thump, and the Button winning W) When y...
