Re: I'm calling it now.
Feels premature to right one of the big teams of before a big rule change, especially in terms of so aero packages. Everyone remembers what Mercedes did in 2014. The sensible choice right now is to focus on the engine this season with a view to the token restrictions ending and next year's chasis. F...

Re: Austrian GP Qualifying and Race Thread
Fair enough. That aside, the rules leave room for common sense and interpretation from racing experience. You will always get a few complaints, but think generally people are in agreement on this occasion. Hopefully we can get back to enjoying some racing between the two of them - be interesting to ...

Re: Austrian GP Qualifying and Race Thread
I´m also interested in why you need to leave "racing room" on corner entry but not exit. Because that's the rules and you can't just rewrite them to suit. It is? Can you quote it? As far as I am aware this is not strictly in the rules, hence the requirements for the stewards to provide the justific...

Some of their decisions over the years quite frankly mystify me . Based on this discussion and a number previously I have no doubt t...

Re: Hamilton vs rosberg. Part 265
The reason I think Lewis gets away with it is because up until now, the driver on the outside, normally Nico, has chosen the none contact, head off the track technique rather than be in an accident where one or both drivers could get a dnf. Perhaps this won't happen next time and they will both ret...

Re: Austrian GP Qualifying and Race Thread
Have I missed it or has little been said about the track surface? I found a Rob Smedley quote interesting where he said it is clearly a very different track with the new surface. Even more interestingly Red Bull were significantly stronger than they have been the last few years. Yes, improved engine...

Re: Hamilton vs rosberg. Part 265
Was Nico really impressively quick? It is very hard to say either way so that is a shot in the dark frankly. The only gauge we have is Hamilton and he was nursing his tyres the entire race to do one stop. There is no way to tell how quick Nico was that race at all. He had the knowledge that he woul...

Re: Hamilton vs rosberg. Part 265
I put it on the race thread but is also relevant here - It's gone to far now. Both drivers would much rather crash than let the other one pass . Neither of them care about the rules of the sport or the interests of their employer. I am not sure if it is the responsibility of the teams or the FIA to...

I was not a fan of this clampdown to begin with. But lot of people were like "Oh good, now they dont have to listen to Rosberg's radio asking every little detail". Re: Should the radio rules be changed?

Everyone knew that going into 2016 the drivers would not be able to resolve issues with the assistance of engineers in the pits but rather have to manage the car by themse...

Re: The Official Lewis Hamilton thread
Perhaps it wasn’t obvious with Hamilton whether it was the mode or the car as he needed it more or less right from the start so got the problem early on. Rosberg was able to conserve the engine and didn’t need to be in a more aggressive mode. When he did change it was probably a straight forward dec...

Maybe Lewis should spend some more time in the simulator and work out what the steering wheel switches do. I'd argue the clutch is perfect for Mercedes right now - repeat of 2015 wouldn't be great anyway, Hamilton dominating from the start and winning with 7/8 races to go. Re: The Official NICO ROSBERG thread
Nico has made some bad judgement calls these past races, in Monaco he shouldn't have been so quick in letting Lewis by and in Canada he should have backed out in the first corner and been more patient, his time would've come later in the race. I doubt it. There's a reason why Lap 1 Turn 1 is so imp...

Re: Define the strengths and weaknesses of Merc/RB/Ferrari c
Right now Ferrari seem to be within striking distance of Mercedes. Based on his comments, Hamilton could probably have done a better lap on Saturday but I still think there's only 2-3 tenths between the Mercedes and the Ferrari right now. Certainly that's a far cry from the dominance of recent year...

Re: 2016 Monaco GP race thread
For me the stewards got it spot on, as clearly from the discussion on here it is far too subjective a decision to justify enforcing a penalty whereby the lead driver has to relinquish position to the chasing driver. Even if you look at the Rosberg-Hamilton incident in Montreal, which seems much more...

Re: Ricciardo Vs Verstappen - Who will come out on top?
One of the Red Bulls had to mirror Vettel on the 3 Stop. Vettel was around half a second quicker than DR after the second stops, then dived into the pits as soon as he got the gap down to 1s. If Vettel had the luxury of spacing out his second and third stop, without anyone matching his strategy, he...

Surely a bargaining standpoint from Wolff. Rosberg is probably pushing for a similar wage to Lewis on the basis he has a sizeable lead in the championship. Mercedes will perhaps not go that high for both drivers.

I think the traffic didn't help Ricciardo either for what it's worth. Did he not lose a fair chunk of time behind Palmer at one point?. I'm not overly sold he was struggling on the Mediums either, he responded when Max got within DRS range by going a couple of tenths quicker than Max in back to bac...

Ricciardo had the race won and they put him on the wrong strategy. Its still a bit unclear their motives behind doing this. Today isn't that good of an indicator. It was Ricciardos race to win had RBR given him the better strategy (which they probably thought they did). I don't think many would disagree with that fundamentally, but before you can even consider reducing/removing the DRS they would first need to address the aero to make it easier for cars to follow.

Think the starts are going to be absolutely crucial over the season, and if Hamilton doesn’t get that sorted then Rosberg is good enough to punish that.
