Re: If Alonso was in Mercedes this year with Lewis...
Is Alonso that bad a qualifier….or is that just the impression we have because over the last few years the Ferrari has been slow in terms of one lap pace and the great in race trim. The Mercedes has been the complete opposite. I would guess that Hamilton is much closer to Alonso in terms of race cra...

Re: 2014 Monaco GP Practice and Qualifying Thread
Looking forward to qualifying now! Important for Rosberg to stop Hamilton’s momentum and stay in the championship – if he can’t do anything here I don’ fancy his chances at Montreal / Silverstone / Hungaroring. Vettel will likewise be keen to come back against DR and put a bit more pressure on him. ...

Re: Can Hamilton beat Vettel's 9 consecutive wins?
He isn't very intelligent at all IMO. At Malaysia in 2013 he should have sat on Hamilton's gearbox through the final turn and passed on the main straight instead of passing Hamilton on the back straight and allowing Hamilton use of DRS to re-pass him into turn 1. Using past racing decisions to judg...

I think Riciardo getting the point is about right, although starting with a sentences like ‘ Ricciardo qualified in front of Vettel again to make it 4-1 in the Saturday battles ’ is understandably going to cause some tension – not really a fair reflection of events on Sat. But, Ricciardo did edge Q2...

These days far more quality drivers are coming through the ranks, compared with 20-30 years ago when it was much more money driven – so it seems the field is becoming much closer in ability from front to the back of the grid. Coupled with the fact that that during this era tyre wear and differing ra...

@Zoue ^ I hardly think it's merely sentiment to retain Nico. Nationality plays a part in any sport and f1 also. Yeah, sounds more than a little far-fetched. If you think it through though – Alonso isn’t getting any younger. Frozen this season, with the exception of safety, reliability and cost upgrades as mentioned above, but as someone else has stated (and I think I read in an article - sorry no source) only a small percentage of engine parts are frozen between 2014 and 2015, so you don’t need to panic so much about ...

Re: how are teams able to get engine upgrades when locked do
What the teams can't do, is to fundamentally redesign the engine. So Renault can't go and introduce a split turbo. At best they could maybe increase the gap between the turbine and compressor a little claiming the heat is somehow affecting reliability - but if they increased it too much then it wou...

It seems to me that the documentary is the red herring. Vettel is going to have to go through that same type of transformation if he wants to be regarded as great. He has to win and compete near the top when he doesn't have the best car. Ha, I know this is an argument that no-one will ever win, but when you define best do you consider consistency or ability to deliver when it matters most. You’d have to put Vettel up there on that one, but I’d rather discuss Hamilton and Alonso. Alonso always seems to deliver, regardless of the car ...

I don’t understand how Vettel being on a 3-stop strategy saves him face – assuming that is the case he would need to be going quicker to make up the time for the additional pit stop. There will be the argument that running to the fuel flow limits as specified by the FIA sensor for the next two races could weaken their argument for going against it in the first race. Tough call for RBR, but you’d have to guess they’ll fall in line.

When they say fuel flow, are they not describing a rate, hence whether you define that rate in kg/hr or g/sec it is exactly the same thing. I always assumed the reason for defining it in kg/hr was for ease of comparison with the average race fuel consumption - say Bahrain takes 1hr 40 mins to finish...
