Re: Safety in F1 following Japan GP [Split from other thread
the real problem is not wet weather racing or slowing down enough under yellows, it is the bloody tractors. They are so out of place and out of time with the current Formula. Rather than some knee jerk regulation to this the problem needs to be addressed directly, i'm surprised it wasn't after Nurb...

Re: Which driver has raced in the most countries?
It would have to be Button, as he has raced in pretty much every GP each year, and he has been at it longer than anyone. Now, if you count the driver's experience in lower formulas into the accounting, then it may not be Button - he did't spent a whole lot of time in them before entering F1. So it d...

Button has been with McLaren 5 years and he's watched them gradually lose competitiveness. No, McLaren lost competitiveness all at once, with the 2013 car's change to a high chassis design (which has continued to this year in part). Re: Safety in F1 following Japan GP [Split from other thread
A lot of silly reasoning going on in this thread, and I say that as someone with some statistical background. 1) Firstly, you CANNOT compare the "danger" of hitting a JCB with the "danger" of hitting a car that has been abandoned. Statistically, they are very different. A JCB will only be an obstacl...

In 2012, a season also in which Button had a lot of problems with tire set-up, he had 4 DNFs to Hamilton's 6 DNFs. Button also had 3 Wins and 3 2nds while Hamilton had 4 Wins and 3 3rds. There is no pretence involved in thinking that Button's race pace was close to and sometimes better than Hamilto...

Although a bit tongue in cheek, I suggest Sam Michael is the reason. Look what he's done for McLaren. Sam Michael is the sporting director, and is in charge of pit stops, among other things. Since he took over, McLaren have gone from having DISASTROUS pitstops for Lewis and Jenson, to now routinely...

Thinking even about how Alo vs But would end, is futile. Button needs rain, or Barrichello as teammate, his WCC leaves some bad taste. I can't help to say that Hamilton drove a Schumacher-esque race. Really, this race showed the difference in class between the two drivers. This. Firstly, I think the important thing to remember is that COACHING IS NOW BANNED. So there are a lot of younger drivers that looked pretty good this year, with coaching, that will find themselves short of experience for the next year or two. And I think KMAG is one of them, period. If Honda would buy...

My understanding is that the SLS is fitted out with an array of radios, lights, and other equipment that would be costly to re-install in a different car for every race. McLaren can only replace JB with a top driver, IMHO. Alonso, Lewis....or...Alonso, Lewis... Maybe Vettel at a stretch, given the year he has had. The announcement of the return of Prodromou is the real indicator of McLaren's fortunes. They have simply not had a world-class aero team for the past few seasons, and the move to the higher-chassis configurations two years ago killed them. Prodromou knows all about RB's high-chassis configuration, ...

why is this team even in existence ?????? Because back in the OLD days of F1, this is the way things were DONE. All of which might help account for Jenson's conspicuously philosophical attitude in the face of misfortune, one which I can't help but think betrays a waning motivation. only time Button was a top driver was in Brawn 2009, cause he had the best car, anyone could have won that championship. What is "too easy"? The signs of "too easy" are simple. Max being signed for TR is probably one of them, as there is no way a BOY of 17 would ever have been considered tough enough, skilled enough or mature enough to get behind the wheel of a 1990s-era F1 car. Another is the Lotus that is for rent. ...

IDK Teddy, Alonso, Hamilton, possibly Vettel… I think could and would have done a better job than Button. JB was as much a match for Hamilton as Rosberg is. He was usually around 1/2 tenths from Lewis in qualifying. Since Lewis left the team, the cars have been bad - unable to win a race. When you think about how quick the 2012 car was, that is worrying. It could be a co-incidence that when Hamilton le...

How Monza will likely unfold...
McLaren will look to leapfrog the field by using a "Drag Racing" set-up, bettering Red Bull's aggressive use of a "Monza" set-up at Spa. As Jenson says they have no grip 99% of the time anyway, Rod Dennis figures that it can't get any worse. The new rear wing is only half a meter wide, and so short ...

You cannot compare last year's times to this year's in the race, as Pirelli brought supersofts last year but only softs this year - the each tire is harder than last year's. The appropriate lap time comparison might be this season's softs versus times set on last year's mediums, under similar fuel l...
