The shortest race in F1 history was the 14 laps covered at Adelaide in 1991, which would be 8 or 9 laps at Suzuka.

Re: Japanese Grand Prix RACE Thread.
Is the weather any worse than 1994? It's about the same. Remember that even in 1994 they stopped the race for an hour. But back then of course they stated at 1300 Japanese time (5am in the UK) and that wasn't a typhoon so it cleared. This stuff looks like it's set for the rest of the day. Red flag....

It struck me the other day that, at 55, Brundle might not co-commentate for that much longer. Button would be ideal for that role, no?

I tend to agree with those who think that if Button is out of McLaren then he'll retire. He must know he's unlikely to get another top seat and I don't think he'll stick around for the sake of it.

I definitely read somewhere today about some managerial movements as part of the Alonso bid (and of course I can't find it!). It didn't specifically state Ron but it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that's who it meant My first thought was that it would be strange for Ron to be ousted so quickly ...

After what happened at the weekend I think Alonso and Ferrari are done. It's obvious that the new Ferrari chairman (I can't spell his name yet, sorry) wants him out, much like with Prost in 1991. There are some tracks where a Merc 1-2 is guaranteed as long as it stays dry, and they don't break down or collide (Japan and Brazil especially, and probably Austin, Sochi and Abu Dhabi all told - the long straights will play to their advantage and we know the customer teams are asked to defer to th...

Being a fan and being a fanboy are two very different things. A fan retains hold of his/her critical faculties and isn;t afraid of criticising the driver when needs be. I'm a big fan of Fernando Alonso, I make no bones about it, but there have been episodes in his career that have been very trying f...

Hi Blake, thanks for the words. The forum became far too divisive during the latter stages of Eurytus' tenure and I think some of my feelings about F1 have shifted a bit anyway. Hungary 1997 is probably the most that any single race has impacted me at an emotional level. The only thing that comes close is Brazil 2012.

I imagine the baseball field may end up being "re-located" if an F1 deal is struck. But despite that, there will be no Peralta Curve. Even back in 1992 there was a proposal to replace Peralta with two right-angle corners on safety grounds. Of course, there was no GP in '93 so perhaps that saved the ...

Re: Mexico sign 5 year deal starting 2015
There was a mock-up of a proposed series of modifications (which, predictably, would see pretty much every corner ripped up) knocking around a while ago. They can't use Peraltada, there's a main road directly behind it so there's no room to build the massive run-off that would be required by the reg...

I think he would have just torn straight through it, Laura, and anyone who has a keen understanding of motorsport in the early 1970s would know the likely (grim) outcome of that. Re: Luciano Burti
He was extremely lucky to survive that. IIRC, he caught the end of the three-tyre-deep barrier. Another 20 yards or so further left and it would have been a barrier one layer deep and I really don't think he would have survived that; in fact I think he would most likely have vaulted the barrier and ...

It's not the sliding wide that's the problem. It's the method of re-entering the track (i.e. at full throttle over a grassed bit) that's the problem.

It's always subjective. Alonso and Ricciardo appear to have extracted the most from their machinery. Bottas is getting there as well, though there were a couple of more ordinary races earleir in the year from him, understandable given his still relative inexperience. I expect him to thrash Massa ove...

It's for the European TV audience, basically. BE/CVC would like as many races as possible to begin at 4 or 5pm in Europe. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sepang follow suit in 2015.

I'm struggling to think of many occasions when a driver had to move down the grid and then managed to get back up it again, tbh. They're usually perceived as having had their chance and blown it (whether that perception is fair or not). Sometimes a driver moves down and ends up with a team on the up...
