Re: The best season performance from any driver
And yet Senna still managed 5 wins that year to finish 2nd in the championship in what was clearlythen the 2nd, & even sometimes the 3rd best car on the grid. His season that year simply dwarfs anything Verstappen achieved this year. That is why I separated seasons by different levels of car compet...

Re: The best season performance from any driver
Leclerc fights him every time they're together on track. But it's true that quite a few drivers don't seem to bother. There's fighting and there's "fighting". Leclerc made Verstappen's life quite easy in Abu Dhabi. I've yet to see Leclerc make Verstappen choose between backing out and crashing. He ...

It's not a character competition nor looks, rather his skills as a TD/TP. I'd go for Gunther otherwise, based on his humour and swearing!FormulaFun wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 3:11 pmI think Horner is just such an donkey that it hurts to vote him highly

Re: The best season performance from any driver
The last thing is exactly what RB could do this season - run more downforce and still be quicker on the straights, especially with their super-DRS. And no, the DRS advantage did not disappear as was clearly visible. A bit reduced maybe, disappear no. The few times we’ve seen Red Bull battle with Fe...

Frentzen's 1999. How he became an outside title candidate in the Jordan is really impressive. Well, that car was not bad, despite Hill's terrible, stinker of a year. I think Schumacher or Hakkinen could have possibly won the WDC in that car. Also, Schumacher not being there probably helped bumping ...

Yes, but we don't anymore......for various different reasons unfortunately. Most of them seem to have 2-wheels. Again, no arguments that it's better in the scenarios that you had mentioned. Forever a shame, but I understand the track operators’ point of view. I think Monaco and Suzuka ran without t...

Re: The best season performance from any driver
Best season i've ever seen remains Senna 93 by a mile. Best season in a dominant car - Senna 88. I think Alonso 2012 was the best season by any driver that I have ever seen since the late 70s / early 80s. I am not so sure of that anymore with Verstappen driving to such a high level race after race....

Definitely not a penalty IMO. Norris retained position (with a slightly bigger gap than before the collision I might add) so that should nullify any consideration of a penalty for Perez. No one lost out so why come to that decision? All this will do is prevent drivers from taking chances up the ins...

Re: 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix Race Thread
I think quite frankly that Wolff went a bit overboard with his comments. Not a problem for me personally, but attacking a journalist (regardless whether I think those journalists are worth their salt) is simply bad form. The journalists are there to ask difficult questions, not to play to the tune ...

Careful and prudent, as in being unable to enforce its own lifetime ban on a certain Mr Briatore? :? How could they? Briatore sued them and the French court overturned the ban. They eventually reached a settlement outside the court. I think the point he is trying to make is that the legal system is...

I think he was also aggrieved by Prost deliberately taking him out at the same race a year earlier and then the FIA's corrupt actions that day. We are going wildly off-topic though with this discussion. I don't think Massa's case has much merit unless they manage to find the mysterious "statutes"; ...

You are right, that is a much closer parallel. Though it is unclear when it was known that Senna had indeed simply rammed the Ferrari. He was more or less tricked into a confession a year later. I don't believe I know of anyone who knew of his intention before the actual race. Pointing to Senna's p...

8O Are you sure about Wolff's reason for not appealing? I have seen his video shortly after deciding not to appeal, and I have re-read the statement the team published after having decided not to appeal. Was there another explanation that I missed? 2008 and 2021 are not comparable incidents at all. One involves an error made by an official (which, let's not forget, the team had every opportunity to contest but chose not to, as they perhaps rightly guessed they had no chance of winning that one) whereas the other involves a proven case of chea...

The thing with precedent is, that there is a first for everything. I did defend Masi, and continue to do so. But I disagree with many that resolving 2008 opens the door to "resolving" 2021, for the simple reason that the regulations allowed what Masi did. Whether Ecclestone was correct about the an...

Look at the bit I put in bold. They were far from friends by 2016. I also don't think Hamilton has been the least graceful runner-up in defeat we've ever had. Schumacher, Senna and Max never pretended to be friends. They also rarely met each other - especially Verstappen the other two. ;) Guess who...
