Re: New Qualifying Format - Staggered Eliminations

This adds an extra element of pressure to the qualifying and should yield slightly less predictable results. It feels contrived perhaps, but we probably won't be complaining after we've seen it in action for 5+ races. Well, we'll see.

I know this is about the teams, but a word on the drivers. I think Hamilton has had his bit and will start the season slowly. Rosberg and Vettel will be the best racers for the first half of the season and Hamilton will come on strong after coming out of hibernation for the second half of the season...

Lewis sending VERY clear messages to F1 and Mercedes in his chat with Martin Brundle. He's displeased, and clear about the problem about things being "set from the beginning" when he wants to race, take risks, and try something. He did commend Nico though.

Just wanted your general thoughts on the extent of Verstappen's talent and the future of Formula 1. Do you think he's going to become a solid midfield racer; one of the top racers; a perennial Grand Prix winner a la Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel; something beyond even those greats? In the next "era" o...

Yeah that's where I was going with it, that Rosberg in this form will eat into Hamilton but Räikkönen won't eat much into Vettel. Räikkönen would need to raise him game substantially, as Rosberg has done recently. If Ferrari are just a touch behind, then I'd expect an even battle between Hamilton an...

I'd rather Rosberg stayed at Mercedes and Hamilton found a new challenge by joining Ferrari alongside Vettel... Verstappen can join Rosberg and Red Bull become really competitive again with Ricciardo at the helm. Pipe dreams, though.

Legend. To be a great, you need to be more than just a very good racing driver, but you have to be able to understand people and then extract the best out of them and yourself. The greats aren't just extremely skilled racers, but they are also emotionally intelligent and have a will to win that is b...

No that's not true. It may mean you have to tighten your belt a bit. Hamilton has never been underpaid. I don't think any driver is worth the money Hamilton (and Alonso) is being paid. I don't see how anyone can champion reducing costs in F1 and at the same time justify these frankly ridiculous sal...

Some people judge things in relative terms though e.g., X is usually not as good as Y but for X's standards they performed unusually well; they are still worse than Y, who just produced a standard performance, but X did well for himself so X is the driver of the day. Lauda = Piquet = Brabham

In terms of greatness:

Senna

Nico simply has been weaker than Lewis for most of the season. Now that the Championship is over, he's put in a complete performance; now that the Championship is over, that is. Asking Nico to reproduce this week in week out is a stretch. It's normal for a very good player in one sport to get wins o...
