Re: France: Vettels 5 Second Penalty

Not so much to construct a desired outcome, but to deliver a punishment equivalent to the act. But the act was a brief lock-up. It was minor, and unintentional. For sure. I don't think it's representative of Vettel's ability. Just because an accident wasn't intentional doesn't mean it shouldn't be ...

Re: France: Vettels 5 Second Penalty

Not so much to construct a desired outcome, but to deliver a punishment equivalent to the act. I wouldn't go so far as to say disqualification (except in extreme circumstances I'm sure we'd agree on), but a stop-go would be a better punishment for the crime. I think a lot of contention around these...

Re: France: Vettels 5 Second Penalty

Ignoring circumstance will allow situations like this occur, though. That's nonsense. The risk of hitting someone from behind is at least as big for the one behind as the one in front, possibly even bigger. To say that a penalty that is being seen as lenient will invite drivers to plow into the bac...

Re: FIA requested by Stewards to review Bizarre F3 Crash?

All of us are partially blind in both eyes, but we go through life without being aware of it. The area we cannot see is an oval shaped area to the right of where we are looking with our right eye and to the left of where we are looking with our left eye. Your brain fills in the area you cannot see ...

Re: when, and to where, will the Ricciardo move take place?

Plucky underdog?? He's topped a 4x WC, is widely regarded a the best overtaker in the field and is always in discussions when it comes to who is the best driver on the grid. I wouldn't exactly describe that as the characteristics of the stereotypical underdog. Webber would fit into that category. B...

Re: France: Vettels 5 Second Penalty

I voted for a drive-through. Five seconds, especially given how much faster the top six cars are to everybody else , was an inadequate. So now a driver for a top team should be punished harder than a driver for a mid-grid team because the car is faster anyway? Slippery slope if we're going to have ...

That's a fair point, but surely every other driver that was behind the third row on the grid lives with the same sight limitation and didn't go straight into the back of the car.

Clumsy driving and took out one of the top-three drivers. I'm surprised at the result of the poll, I agreed with Hamilton's opinion that it was a slap on the wrist really. Re: Boring races? People have short memories...

F1 is just lucky a lot of its fans only watch it. If more people started watching sportscars they'd see how consistently entertaining top-level motor racing can be. I've watched six hour WEC races that have barely had a period where there wasn't some close racing to follow. Also possible, a lot of ...

With Grosjean on zero points to his team-mate's 27, it's surprising there's not more talk of Leclerc going to Haas in 2019. Ferrari is a bold bet, but a Ferrari customer team would be a step up from Sauber without risking an unknown quantity in a top seat. Why would Ferrari do that? Alfa Romeo Saub...

The difference, of course, being that Vettel is a 4x World Champion who has shown an ability to fight toe-to-toe without making clumsy mistakes such as he did in France. T1 for him was the exception, not the rule. It's a bit different with Verstappen.

What do we think of them? Both of them have solid reputations as reliable drivers, and Sainz was an obvious step up over Palmer when he moved from STR to Renault last year. The top three.

Special mention to Gasly going from 19th to 11th in a race with zero overtaking.

Half mention to Ricciardo who, allegedly struggling with the new engine, managed to provide just about the only excitement of the race in the pit stops with Lewis Hamilton.

I still don't think their race pace is as good as either Ferrari or Mercedes on most normal tracks. They pump in fastest laps because their drivers are highly motivated. Red Bull apparently pay $200,000 in bonus if their drivers sets the fastest lap of the race. That would explain Ricciardo's disap...

I'm not sure that can be put down entirely to Hamilton's lack of inspiration.
