Re: 2016 Italian Grand Prix Race Thread
Hamilton shot himself in the foot with that start Sorry, but I don't believe that. I'm of the firm belief that there's an issue with that Mercedes car that's intermittent. Hamilton has consistently had VERY BAD starts this year - of a much higher % ratio than in ANY OTHER year of his F1 career. Tha...

Re: 2016 Italian Grand Prix Race Thread
Its always a snoozefest when Nico wins, he did everything right from start to finish. Good on Nico today on a track Lewis has dominated. I think you mean when Mercedes dominate, not Nico. It would have been just as dull had Lewis not dropped the ball at the start again. I see the "nico only wins wh...

Re: Jenson to announce his retirement today?
I'd much prefer a proper retirement, none of this "I'll be back in 2018" nonsense - what if McLaren don't want him and he's up for racing? Will they release him? It's going to end up with him retiring whilst not even racing, a sad end to a lengthy career. Just a few notches less embarrassing and end...

The whole thing feels like Ron dangling a carrot to keep the commercial benefits that Jenson brings without paying him a drivers salary. I think it's highly unlikely that Button will race an F1 car again after 2016. If McLaren build the sort of car I think they will, and Honda upgrade their engine over the winter at the same rate they have, even if Alonso decides to walk away that seat will be very desirable and Button at 38 will no...

Hypothetically if JB has a straight choice between Williams and McLaren, which would you go for? To me, as daft as it might sound, I think it's a no brainier to stay at McLaren. Why, because there's no point in him being on the grid unless he has a chance to win races and I can't see Williams offer...

Here's a question to anyone who thinks F1 should be on FTA TV: why? What makes it special compared to pretty much every other sport that isn't readily available on FTA TV? F1 costs too much for the audience it can draw. Good luck to Channel 4 - I hope they get a better deal from Bernie and F1 becomes more interesting to watch. This is the problem. I initially was quite annoyed, but now this is good for 2 reasons... 1. Hopefully Channel 4 will have rights to ALL races, rather than the stupid 50/50 Sky Deal. I kinda felt like Alonso has given up. After his "if we're not scoring points I'm retiring" message from Austin, then telling the team after 3 corners "I'm retiring"... He was completely average, another Kovalainen. Anyone accusing button of denying him a place is kidding themselves. There's nothing stopping him getting a drive now. Apart from an average first season and (sadly) lack of people willing to back him financially for F1.

It is a problem thats only going to get worse until we end up with a top 4 of Merc, Ferrari, Honda and Renault works teams. You're right, F1 needs one or two solely customer engine suppliers. The problem isn't McLaren and Jenson denying Vandoorne a seat. McLaren are well with in their rights to hire Jenson because he suits their current needs, and Jenson is more than deserving of the seat. The problem is the disparity between entity level seats and the cost of running a team. The small f...

I wouldn't be too down-heartened about Vandoorne.
He's young and has time on his side. Its probably best he doesn't go straight into the first team, not whilst they're the 9th best team on the grid, he'd only end up being the scapegoat if the team don't progress in 2016.
