On the one hand, that was a great race.
On the other, what a fairy cakes. Write a damn rulebook and stick to it.

Re: 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Red Bull protesting Hamilton decision. Wonder what they have this time that FIA didnt. They aren't. You are right. They are looking into it. I misunderstood. Marko explicitly said that Red Bull had lodged an appeal, but the deadline has passed and they have not. So it was just the usual Marko noise.

Re: Betting on F1
Oddschecker has Lewis 13/17 vs Max 5/4 for the drivers' championship. I know he's on a hot streak, but that seems pretty bullish on Lewis to me given he (probably) needs to win both races.

Re: An intentional crash to win the title
I don't have the Schumacher doc available at the moment (it's on Netflix) but what Damon says is something along the lines of "Would I have done the same thing in Michael's position? I don't know..." I understood this as "I don't know whether I would be strong enough to resist temptation" Also, if y...

Re: An intentional crash to win the title
Exclusion of the current year championship and a next season ban from F1... That would be my preference as well, if the incident is clearly deliberate. But I don't see why it would happen. After Jerez 1997, every driver knows they won't win the title by deliberately crashing out a rival, so there's...

Re: Brazil 2021 - Should Max have been given a Penalty
The Sporting Regulations contain essentially no information on how to legally overtake another car (seriously, the 'driving' section is a grand total of six paragraphs, there's more detail on how to MC the podium ceremony than on how to legally overtake another car). DRIVING 27.1 The driver must dr...

To be blunt it sounds like they are making it up as they go along. I also don't really understand why they have this two-layer system where they 'review' every incident but only 'investigate' those they deem worthy. Maybe the 'investigate' step is where they call in all the data feeds and whatnot? ...

I still think it's going to be Max. Lewis has had an amazing couple of races and looks like the fastest car but he has to convert that into two wins and there's so much that can go wrong for him.

Absolute joke. Basically saying that if you are on the inside you can do what you want ( except if you are Hamilton at Silverstone ). It was a penalty all day long and really do worry what this will now mean for the racing There was contact in Silverstone though. One incident is crowding a car, the...

Re: Brazil 2021 - Should Max have been given a Penalty
On the one hand, I'm glad we aren't changing stewards' (non) decisions after the fact because I think decisions made mid-race should stick (barring extreme circumstances), on the other hand I understand the logic behind the rejection of the review because Max's onboard doesn't really add anything to...

Given the choice between the two, I'd take the three points. But a 5s penalty is probably not within the rules and would also be massively unjust.

Re: Brazil 2021 - Should Max have been given a Penalty
The thing is I don't think it should matter that much from a disciplinary perspective whether Verstappen's car behaved the way it did because Verstappen deliberately ran wide or because Verstappen was carrying too much speed and had some understeer. Regardless of intent, the facts are the same. "I'm...

Re: Brazil 2021 - Should Max have been given a Penalty
For all that I think a penality was due there, I really hate this business of arguing out every stewarding call in post-race appeals. It was silly when Red Bull tried it and it's silly now Mercedes are trying it. I want the stewards to be given a clear set of rules to work to and the power to make t...

What I would question is the few who suggest that had there been contact, then maybe Max would have been given the penalty and been deemed mostly at fault. If it is not a penalty without contact, then it should not be a penalty if Hamilton decides to take the risk and call Max’s bluff. I think othe...

I mean seriously. At Silverstone, everyone was "Lewis missed the apex by a pretty small distance so was at fault for the contact". Except that time the car on the outside gave a lot less space than in this incident and chose not to bail out, and despite contact the car on the inside still made the c...

Re: 2021 Mexican Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
I’m not convinced Tsunoda is at fault for messing up Perez and Verstappen’s laps in Q3. I think Tsunoda was fine getting out the way and Perez just made a mistake and after that Verstappen had to back out a bit. Basically, Perez’s fault for me. Ted said on Sky that Marko had been down to see Tost a...

The qualifying format had a lot to do with that. When the cars are pretty close in quality but the qualy format routinely puts the leaders at the back, you end up with a very close championship.

Re: One of these days a pair of title rivals will kill one another
At the end of the day it's the immoveable object against the irresistible force. I very much doubt there will be a clean pass for position between the two for the remainder of the season UNLESS the stewards start clamping down harder from this point. Because it's not in either's interest to allow t...

"That's what you get when you don't leave the space" doesn't make Max's case easier, but I'd still draw a line between 'getting a bit angry and bull-headed and not backing down when you probably should have' and 'deliberate collision'. There are plenty of commentators who have this as a racing incid...

Re: Hamilton/Verstappen Italian GP 2021 Collision Discussion / Poll
Another way of looking at it. Would Hamilton have done the same to another driver on the grid? Yes, he most likely would have. Because 95% of the time the car in Verstappens position concedes as per the precedent set with the rules and the risk/reward. Does Verstappen pull the same move on any othe...

I mean yeah, the stewarding is a mess. On the narrow incident, I'm not sure what Max expected to happen at turn 2. Lewis did run Max out over the sausages which led to him bouncing over them, but I'm not sure even without that Max had shed enough speed to allow him to make turn 2 on a sane line. But... Lewis did give room for Max to make...

Interestingly Mazepin was actually lapping Mick at one point but still getting outvoted heavily on here. The hate for this guy is truly blind. I mean, a fair part of that was because Mazepin broke Schumacher's front wing early on with that very aggressive block. And yes, despite the stewards not ad...

Eau Rouge/Radillon is really becoming a problem. Supposedly there's a new bump at the maximum compression point in the right-hander, and that wierd synchonised crash could be explained by a combination of the bump and a wet track.

I'm generally sceptical of A>B>C-ology for the reasons Exediron and others stated, but I think Alonso > Kimi=Massa is one of its more solid conclusions. Kimi's very good, and he may well have had a particular affinity for the early 2000s cars, but outside of his early career I don't see a reason to ...
