Re: The 100 Greatest of All Time (Update)

Re: The 100 Greatest of All Time (Update)

3. VERSTAPPEN, Max 2. HAMILTON, Lewis Some posters I suspect will do a double take. Presumably KingVoid thinks that Verstappen is better than Hamilton on pure ability, but lags (significantly, as of yet) behind in achievement and legacy. Where to place the fulcrum on that particular balance is a ke...

Re: The 100 Greatest of All Time (Update)

I’ve done a “Top 40 from the last 30” list which is the 40 best drivers of the last 30 years, ranked accordingly. This list only takes into account everything a driver did after January 1st, 1994 because that essentially marks the end of the Senna/Prost/Mansell show. 40. KOBAYASHI, Kamui 39. MAGNUSS...

Re: Winning Streaks in the Lewis Hamilton Era

For someone to dismiss Senna, Prost, Schumacher & Hamilton as "so called greats", while simultaneously refusing to entertain even the slightest hint that Verstappen might just not be the F1 messiah you think he is, & who maybe didn't just have the greatest season by any driver ever, demonstrates to...

Re: Winning Streaks in the Lewis Hamilton Era

But that last paragraph makes it pretty clear that you're not actually arguing from a neutral position. You're championing 'your driver' here, as you perceive everyone who argues against you to be doing. That's not the most intellectually honest approach itself. Bored of all the intellectual dishon...

Re: Winning Streaks in the Lewis Hamilton Era

I've also begrudgingly accepted that Verstappens a very, very good driver, though until he does what Vettel dared to do & leaves the safe & comfy environs of RB & gets out there to challenge himself, i'll never rate him up there with the Sennas, Prosts, Schumachers & Hamiltons of this world. Re: Winning Streaks in the Lewis Hamilton Era

2018 qualifying analysis depends on what you want to show. You have 15-6, 21 sessions but in 8 sessions one of the drivers did not set a representative time. I would love to see how that 0.2% was calculated considering all the breakdowns in qualifying. Vertsappen was quicker than Ricciardo in 2018,...

Re: Winning Streaks in the Lewis Hamilton Era

Yeah I really don't think getting out qualified by Verstappen was the catalyst for Ricciardo leaving RB in 2018, after all he was leading Verstappen in the championship right up until Silverstone. Ricciardo was "leading" Verstappen in the championship; just like Sainz "lead" Leclerc in 2021 and mos...

Re: Winning Streaks in the Lewis Hamilton Era

I'm not convinced that Verstappen was 'the best' driver in 2019-20 although he clearly put himself up there and delivered, in that respect, in 2021 when he had the car to genuinely compete. In a funny way, Verstappen's 2022 and 2023 seasons confirmed to me beyond any reasonable doubt that he was th...

Re: Winning Streaks in the Lewis Hamilton Era

There were more overtakes in 2016 than 2022 despite one fewer race btw. I'd argue Hamilton lost more races to Rosberg and Bottas precisely because of the effect of dirty air. Verstappen blasting through the field and past Perez isn't because he's so much better than Hamilton was in a dominant car (...

So Verstappen became unstoppable when the team mate that was regularly his equal left the team... what a coincidence. So he was really looking for an even more winning formula? Yes, now that makes total sense of course.
The 2022 formula plays to both Hamilton and Verstappen's strengths in a way the 2015-2021 didn't.

I've just provided 2 examples where Hamilton demonstrates otherwise. It’s easy to say all the right things in the media, anyone can talk the talk, that’s the easiest thing to do. Re: Winning Streaks in the Lewis Hamilton Era

I'm sure if you asked Hamilton if he'd rather race with a closer field and regs that enable easier overtaking versus the era of his actual dominance with a wider field but very hard to overtake, he'd take the 2022 regs any day. Yes, with 7 WDCs under his belt I’m sure he would. Back when he was win...

The lack of gap between the midfield and top cars is the reason why you see Perez get knocked out of Q2 so often and regularly off the podium. The reason was poor performance by Perez. Prior to the budget cap, the gulf in the quality between the big 3 teams and everyone else was so comically massive that from Silverstone 2015 (Massa) until Singapore 2019 (Giovinazzi), not a single driver outside of the big 3 teams even lead a lap. 2023 is not like 2002 for me. Ferrari had a 1-2 in 8 of 12 two car finishes. Ten double podiums from twelve two car finishes. Rubens would have won nearly every race he finished without MS there. Yes, that’s my point. Number 1 drivers get allocated the best and more resources. It’s the logical choice but at some teams it is more so than others. There seems to be an idea floating around that Mercedes was terrible operationally, and that is why Hamilton in 2019 and 2020 did not achieve what Verstappen has achieved in 2022 and 2023, so let’s go back and look at every race Hamilton did not win in those years to see how true this is.
