Re: Mick Schumacher To Mercedes
I was just surprised that your post suggested next year will play out with Russell forcing Hamilton into retirement, rather than it being Russell’s aim. Oh no, don't get me wrong I think Hamilton will beat Russell in 2023 to make Mercedes think they need to sign Leclerc or Norris once he chooses to...

Re: Mick Schumacher To Mercedes
Russell's sole objective in 2023 is to break Hamilton so that he thinks he doesn't have a chance at #8 even if the car is competitive. I think the tentative peace at Mercedes will end at the start of next season.

Russell will be begging Toto to put him in the second car after he makes Hamilton retire. He's the perfect #2 from Russell's perspective if not the team's.

Re: Rank the Drivers 2022 Season Performance
Will be important to start strong, whilst I don’t think Hamilton would ever be given “#2 driver status” next season a bad start for Russell would result in an early branding. I think the team is still questioning if Russell is "the one" so he really needs to savage Hamilton into retirement in 2023 ...

Re: Rank the Drivers 2022 Season Performance
Of course we should not dismiss the possibility that, like Russell, Mercedes have an agenda on the topic of relative performance. Of course Mercedes don't want to upset the peace within the team but Russell is their future and if he genuinely adapted better they would give him credit. Russell has b...

A long and succesfull career doesn't automatically make a driver good at adapting to different circumstances. It absolutely does in the context of how charitably Zhou's performance has been judged. If Zhou was very adaptable, he had ample opportunity to show it due to the limited running both drive...

The few days of testing before the first race with the current regulations are really no substitute. Alfa Romeo had the worst reliability in testing of all the teams and neither Bottas or Zhou got any significant mileage in what was a brand new concept of car. Bottas barely got any FP running in th...

Consider Zhou, a rookie in his first season up against Bottas, a driver in his 10th season having raced for the best team in F1 against the best driver in F1 for five seasons . I have noted the disparity with my views also in the team mate voting after races. They lose a great engineer and a poor team manager. They should have kept him as engineer. Binotto hasn't designed any aero or engines for a very long time. We did see in the past that sharing set up work is a danger area. Once the competition closes up in a team, sharing set up work becomes ...

As such, I hold Hamilton responsible for his consequential lack of pace and eventual retirement, and am handing the vote to Russell as a result, who finished right about where one would expect him to. One of his best years and he's the driver of the season that year for me as well (maybe Kubica) but he did absolutely leave points on the table. 2010 he indisputably had a title contending car by virtue of the fact he went into the last race with a chance of winning the title (albeit the least likely of the 4 protagonists). He lost one position from Ocon in the pits, then was stuck behind him even with DRS. That one incident utterly transformed his race. #3 in a DRS train is absolute limbo, you have DRS on #2 but they have DRS on #1 to defend. Ocon's horrible pace meant he couldn't pass Stroll but could defend from Ha...

2022 has been a difficult season for Mercedes with the W13. The car was an unstable, sometimes porpoising, "diva" that lacked the competitive pace of previous "divas" the W08 and the W12. I've got a gut feeling Mick will find a way back in. Drivers of his calibre have gone away and come back before. Look at Magnussen who has done so twice. Magnussen actually achieved something in his short time in F1 in 2014 (on his debut but still...) which Mick has yet to replicate. He was then ve...
