Re: Mid-season Driver Rankings

Yeh I get that people might judge compared to expectation and opportunity but just in raw terms I see "really poor" as generally putting a driver in the bottom couple or so, yet I don't think he's one of the worst performers. But he is underperforming bigtime relative to the capacity of his car. I ...

Re: Mid-season Driver Rankings

This is why statistics alone obscure the actual performance. Sainz is operating at a really poor level for someone driving the best car on balance when the next best car is so unreliable. Only a statistical approach that hasn't watched the races could ever claim Sainz has been driving well. Sainz h...

Re: Mid-season Driver Rankings

I have a feeling Alonso is being overrated based on what ifs rather than any truly exceptional performances. I feel he's riding on his reputation and past glories rather than his actual form. I think his racecraft has deteriorated to the point that he is not the best in that area anymore. I think h...

Re: Mid-season Driver Rankings

The only way Sainz in third could make any possible sense in terms of one's internal logic would be if one also sees Leclerc as being BY FAR the best driver on the grid.

Russell lost more than 30 secs of race time And if this is true, who was responsible for it? The driver who gave himself damage and a penalty. would have easily finished ahead .. But he didn't - because..... He misjudged that Perez was slightly ahead on his outside, and carried too much speed, then...

Re: 2022 Austrian Grand Prix Race Thread

Ferrari had big advantage in the race and could have been easy 1-2. This looked similar to Australia where RBR was no where in the race. Sad to see Perez race getting destroyed in the start and Russell still got P4 in the end. There was good racing in midfield. Mercedes were 41secs behind which is ...

Good statistic for Ocon. This great result is his 100th grand prix and his 50th for the team.
Is it a good statistic because of the round numbers or something? The happy simultaneity of rounded landmarks?

Merc have a PU deficit, but overall they have been more competitive in recent races, and look to be setting themselves up well for rebounding in 2023. Re: Ferrari vs. Red Bull - 2022

Statement weekend for Ferrari. Probably had a small edge in qualifying but Max did a little better than Leclerc. In the race it was a slaughterhouse in comparison to every other race this season. Ferrari were smashing RB for pace.

You can talk about the sprint race if you want but I'm not bothered.

Re: 2022 Austrian Grand Prix Race Thread

This could get interesting on fresh mediums with not many laps to go, in terms of Max matching Leclerc's pace early in a stint and having a window of opportunity to get a move done. Though it's only the Virtual Safety Car, so never mind.

Amazing speed discrepancy between Ferrari and Red Bull in Austria.
Could it be freshness of engines and related settings?
I thought indications from the sprint race suggested Ferrari are much better on the tyres, so I guess not too long into stints Ferrari have a big advantage on traction.
