Re: Bad Stuff Piquet Has Said

Nelson Piquet throughout the years has always trawled the gutter. I plying that his far more popular countryman Senna was gay in an era where that was an explosive allegation, making crude remarks about Mansell's wife etc. It is a stark reflection of how little respect he has amongst many motorspor...

Re: Bad Stuff Piquet Has Said

The paddock ban is just and proportionate. The sport is trying to grow into new marketplaces so the last thing they need to be seen doing is letting racism slide. Obviously taking away his world championships would be absurd. The only justification for taking his sporting achievements away is if he ...

Re: Bad Stuff Piquet Has Said

Some talk doing the rounds that Piquet's access to the paddock will be revoked unless he issues a public apology to Hamilton. I suspect no such apology will be made and the ball will be firmly put back in the court of the FIA. Max, Checo and Christian are inevitably going to be asked about the situa...

Re: Bad Stuff Piquet Has Said

There is no obligation for Verstappen to comment but that doesn't mean he shouldn't. It is a rather awkward position for him of course as he can't exactly distance himself from the man. He can though distance himself from the comment and given the intensity of the rivalry between the teams, it would...

Re: Bad Stuff Piquet Has Said

I've already expressed my view of Piquet the person, to suggest that the word used was meant descriptively is risible, he knew what he was doing! Having said that, I'm surprised that the Hamilton defence squad haven't been all over Piquet's opinion that Hamilton not only took Verstappen out deliber...

Re: Bad Stuff Piquet Has Said

Oh Nelson. A man who never quite got over his inability to excite the sort of passion amongst his nations fans as Senna did.

F1 probably needs to make a stand like banning Nelson from attending races until such time as an apology is made.

Re: Poll: F1Tyrant's Revisits Retro Edition

Because the analysis of Button vs Hamilton and Button vs Alonso were so enlightening, I would definitely be interested in seeing Button's earlier teammate comparisons. With his first years in F1 it's tricky because he tended to have one pretty short lived teammates. Ralf, Fisi, Trulli and Villeneuve...

Re: Hamilton vs Button 2010-2012 Revisited

I think most people who know anything about F1 know that the points tally was very misleading between Button and Hamilton over three seasons. The margin is definitely a surprise though. The narrative around those seasons across the F1 media makes them sound almost evenly matched.

Re: Ricciardo vs Verstappen 2016-2018 Revisited

The irony is that Ricciardo’s move to Renault was actually brilliant. He build up his stock again by convincingly beating midfield drivers like Hulkenberg and Ocon. He wasn’t competing for wins obviously, but at least he was beating his teammates and retaining his status as a top driver. Everything...

Re: Hamilton vs Button 2010-2012 Revisited

I always wonder what might have happened to Button's career had he returned to Williams at the time of that ugly 2004-2006 contract dispute involving Button, BAR and Williams. It is probably fair to say he would have burnt his bridges with BAR before they became Honda and then Brawn. It seems fairly...

A great idea and I like the execution. A Hulkenberg vs Sainz 2018 comparison would be appreciated. Same for Ocon vs Perez in their tumultuous time as teammates

Re: Ricciardo vs Verstappen 2016-2018 Revisited

There are some in there that are up for debate, but there is no debating the overall trend. There's no doubt that in terms of points and podiums, Ricciardo would have been more successful had he signed a two year contract extension at Red Bull. It is also pretty likely that he would have had his rep...

That's an interesting observation. Is he actually at the level he always was, just that in terms of overall ranking others have jumped him? That's my impression. Ricciardo was best of the rest (i.e. 3rd best) and has slipped back gradually since 2014 really. He probably stopped being the 3rd best d...

I'm really surprised anyone is tipping Schumacher to keep the Haas seat. Young Mick looks a spent force in F1 and showing no tangible sign of improvement. Just seen a headline linking Schumacher to Aston for next season. I assume to replace Vettel. Hmm. I could maybe see some value in having him as a Stroll replacement, but Mick Schumacher is so far off the level required to lead a team like Aston Martin it's not funny. Aston need a statement signing...

It seems unbelievable that four years after his stellar Monaco win in 2018, Ricciardo is starting to be considered a bit washed up. Barring a spectacular turnaround, his time at Mclaren is done. He is on far too much money to justify being a Number 2 driver, and his performances don't even match tha...

It has been a promising start. The acid test of course will be if/when the Mercedes gets back to battling for race wins. That tends to be when talent really shines through. Yes I think Alonso not getting to finish his Q3 lap, the woes of Sainz, Perez getting a touch unlucky at the start, the track being less straight line speed dependent and the Red Bull having horrible end of stint pace on the mediums all contrived to make Mercedes look better than they were. They are...

Re: 2022 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread

The three DRS zones were hit and miss. We got a pretty bad DRS train behind Stroll that just butchered some drivers races. It was fantastic for Albon though and with Latifi for a teammate it gives him a bit of a free pass to rebuild his reputation.

This couldn't have gone better for Leclerc. Verstappen will win a decent number of races this season no doubt but this a such a great position to be in. I really do not like Horner. He's a brilliant and successful team principal, but insufferable in so many ways. I think his popularity with the "Anyone but Mercedes/Hamilton" crowd will very quickly vanish if/when a Ferrari vs Red Bull title fight is on.

Perhaps a lesson for Ferrari that they don't need to run as much downforce on low deg clear one stop tracks. On other tracks the tyre wear advantage it gives them will be key but here it didn't really play a part.
