Re: 2014 Fixed Gear Ratios

Seems very strange. What benefit could there possibly be in fixing the ratios at the start of the season? I can't see any cost implications to altering them race to race, so what exactly is the point? I dont have a problem with it. I'm happy for you, but that's not quite what I asked. I asked what ...

Depends if McLaren wanted two similar drivers (Button and Perez), or two different drivers (Button and Hamilton and Button and Maldonado). I still think Maldonado is better than Perez though.

Yes. In Hungary 2007 he attacked the team by holding up Hamilton, and it was interpreted by many as him attacking Hamilton directly.

2014 Fixed Gear Ratios

Overall I'm looking forward to the 2014 regs, because I think change is always good for F1. But while it's awesome that there's going to be 8 forward gears, they will be fixed, so the cars can reach 8th gear at a track like Monza, but at a track like Monaco, the most they'll do is something like 4th...

I think it will all be good, except for the fixed gear ratios. Stupid idea. Yeah, I really don't see the point of that. If a team screws up their choices then they're going to be compromised for the entire season. Is this where the teams decide their gear ratios at the start of the season for all o...

I think Schumacher is struggling to adapt to this era of F1. All of the things he could exploit (fuel strategy, tires, and testing) were all restricted when he came back in 2010.

2011 wasn't really controversial. Vettel + Red Bull was just dominant. Same in 2009, but i guess there was technical related controversies as to why Brawn did so well. But it was all cleaned up very quickly, and other teams just had to get on with it really Blown exhaust and engine mapping bans in ...

I read an article from 2009 about the then proposed 2010 points system, and it was almost the same except for second place, which gave 20 points. I think they also awarded different points for 6-8th places.

The only thing I thought is that he could have taken the inner loop for the big 180degree turn instead of staying on the F1 layout, but since they haven't driven that, he probably didn't even know that it looped back into the same circuit. Or maybe there is a regulation about shortcutting the circu...

It creates the problems with aquaplaning. The teams could set their cars up high enough so they can handle wet conditions, but right now it's easier to have an intermediate setup because a red flag is almost certain.

Actually Maldonado and Grosjean are better examples. The greats we have on the grid now (Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton) started their F1 careers as test drivers, but right now F1 is too concerned about cutting costs.
