Re: Button on Hamilton and Alonso
Button and Hamilton used different brake compounds in 2012 and McLaren just didn't get Button's brake cooling right first time which is why he had excessive rear tyre degradation which led him down the fruitless path of tinkering with his setup until they worked out what was really wrong. This has n...

Lewis, Max and Kimi in that order. Kimi actually had faster race pace than Sebastian and Valteri when all were on the same tyre strategy. That was his first race performance since his Lotus days and Bahrain 2015 worthy of a world champion, shame we have had to wait years for it.

Re: Verstappen with Red Bull until 2020.
Trying to see the ulterior logic here in Max's decision he probably thought that he's going to be at Red Bull for at least two years as the likelihood of them not finishing in the top 3 next year (his escape clause for 2019) was remote so he probably got a renegotiated contract for the next three ye...

Tier 1 also but I would not mind Hill being classed as a tier 1.5 like say a Button as he could beat the best on his day like Jenson.

Re: Williams' best driver 1996-present
Hill was tier 1, remember he did well against Prost in 1993, 69 vs 99 pts and winning 3 vs 7 against his teammate with Senna winning 5 and Schumacher 1 which shows how competitively tough it was that year. As for the 1997 Hungarian grand Prix he qualified third in that Arrows behind Schumacher and V...

I just would like the top teams to be allowed to field three cars even if only the fastest two of theirs in any race are allowed to score in the WCC points. This really would free up the logjam for the fastest drivers where they literally have to wait years before getting competitive drives. Then F...

Either Hill or Rosberg with honourable mention to Button and Montoya. Rosberg may have been a tad faster but Hill could really race well. Not really a bad driver amongst that lot though.

And now Gasly will sit out Austin to finish the Super Formula season, according to autosport this has something to do with Franz Tost being keen to evaluate another driver for 2018. Wonder who that'd be, then? Scott Speed? ;) One of my mates said he read somewhere that it's Brandon Hartley, but I c...

As Red Bull are looking to deleverage from F1 it's highly unlikely they will want to spend 20m+ on Alonso for a possible extra two tenths and a lot more attitude.

Re: Is Hamilton now rising to be the best of his generation?
Regarding Hamilton vs Alonso - I get the feeling that several top teams would be clamouring for Hamilton and yet I don't hear much talk of Mercedes or Ferrari chasing Alonso but instead much more of the talk surrounds where Ricciardo and Verstappen will end up, neither of which are remotely as acco...

Re: How long will Mercedes domination last?
I agree with many that it ended this year. Both Ferrari and Red Bull have beaten Mercedes on the track this year on genuine pace which is a first for the hybrid era. Verstappen has come of age and now looks to me to be Hamilton's direct successor. Both Ferrari and Renault engines have almost caught ...

This year was hyped as a great battle between Hamilton and Vettel - and that lasted 2/3 of the season. Bottas hasn't looked like a threat to Hamilton, but has won races. The rest of 2017, the title race is dead. How could the title race be dead when the guy behind in the points had a much faster ca...

Re: In my opinion Max very well may be the best driver
It is hard to dispute that Max is probably the best/fastest F1 driver of his age in all F1 history. However now he's 20 he now has to become more of a man racer than a boy racer to take the next step and be considered great regardless of age. This last race was a good start with good clean decisive...

Re: Max is Out-Performing Daniel (Believe it or Not)
I would put it more like a tenth or less in raw speed difference interval in Max>Daniel>Seb and dependent on track/car suitability too. So I think Max is no more than two tenths quicker than Seb which is also where I rate Lewis. Daniel I put a tenth behind on a par with Fernando.

Ferrari are definitely looking more solid last few races but I feel the Mercedes could still be very quick if they can get round their tyre window problem. The fact that Red Bull are now also in the performance mix means not all is lost for Ferrari in their wdc quest.

Fate it appears does not want him to win the 2017 wdc. I thought Stroll made the greater change of direction in their incident but it really doesn't matter as it won't get his gearbox back. The last two races have been a shame really as the Ferrari could have been ultra competitive in both if not for the drivers positioning in one and engine reliability in the second. x( x( Yep, Vettel did exactly what was expected. Hardly exceptional and in some places, very very average. Whining about Bottas post race was embarrassing. In Bottas defense the car is a bit of a tyre diva this year but Rosberg was special/unique in his own particular way and was always a No.1 driver whereas Bottas is more in the No.1.5 driver mode like say Button was, at least for now.

I guess they will only swap if they are directly next to each other in the race otherwise it will be too demoralising for Kimi and probably would not help Vettel in the long run who has probably already lost the wdc barring any 2007 like miracles.

I thought Kimi gave a competent qualifying performance compared to his opposition even if Vettel probably would have beaten it on one of his better days. He is still on the front row, just needs to stay out of trouble at the start and should bank some good points if not a podium/win.
