If Alonso had been in this year's Ferrari you would have to think the wdc would still be going down to the wire in Abu Dhabi. Vettel made it easy for Hamilton and Raikonnen was nowhere again. Drivers and quality/reliability, the chairman is not wrong.

Re: Williams uninspiring driver options for 2018
Even if they pick Kubica they should still pick up Kyvat as their reserve driver. He just might be a good fit for Williams in the long run plus he's 25 in 2019. See how Kubica goes and then draft Kyvat in if it doesn't work out.

None of the current engine manufacturers seem to like it. The solution is then relatively simple, have a hybrid hybrid formula. Let the current manufacturers keep what they want and just offer the cheaper alternative for new entrants as an option. They just have to get roughly equivalent performanc...

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2017 Mexican Grand Prix
Hamilton's move was risky as there wasn't really enough space on the left to pull it off as evidenced by the fact that only his right tyres were on the track during it. Sure Verstappen squeezed him causing him to slow down causing Vettel to collide with him but he did not really need to be jockeying...

Hamilton only needed 5th, WTH was he doing getting in between Verstappen and Vettel on the first lap. He should have stayed out of both their ways like he did in Singapore. His teammate managed it ok and he needed a better result more.

Verstappen, Bottas and Ocon. As for Vettel and Hamilton, playing bumper cars at the start is not really good driving no matter how well you recover from it later.

Re: 2017 Mexican Grand Prix Race Thread
This race encapsulated why Vettel didn't deserve the wdc this year, he was too clumsy in busy fast traffic. Next year will be harder for both Hamilton and Vettel too as there is a new fast kid in town, Verstappen, and an old gunslinger is going to return to have his say too, Alonso. Next year will b...

At the time I thought Hamilton followed by Alonso, Raikonnen, Massa and hindsight has only confirmed this in my mind. However Alonso was very close and the Ferrari was the slightly better car which is why the championship was so close to the end.lamo wrote:So who was the quickest driver in 2007?

Re: Ferrari/Mercedes has the faster car? (post barcelona &
I think you may have a point about Vettel liking downforce to perform fast, it does seem quite a coincidence that in the DD days and now he is particularly strong. The Red Bull driver currently giving him most problems is Verstappen not Ricciardo which suggests the one-sided nature of 2014 might be...

Different tyres, to be fair. And cars. This is what a lot of people don't seem to get: with each rule change different car characteristics come into play and they may have an effect on driver performance. Vettel was very good on his tyres in the DD era; he was quite poor in 2014 when he struggled t...

Alonso needs to get over it, he still could have won 2007, 2010 and 2012 with slightly different decision making in some races. He also chose the teams he drove for and how he behaved in each one.

If the Red Bull was in the top 3 next year he would have been obligated to do 2019 too with whatever engine. This way by getting rid of this opt-out for him he's probably doubled his total contract salary at least by adding that extra year. If he had just one straight year left with no Red Bull opti...

The big variable in this whole thread is how Rosberg would have coped with the diva that is Mercedes W08. Of course the first Mercedes cars over multiple seasons tended to wear out their tyres too so perhaps a look back in history might help.
