Re: 2020 Italian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Right, that doesn’t mean he was trying to get them a penalty. He has no need to. It’s laughable to suggest the guy leading the world championship by 47 points would want to get drivers in the middle/low part of the grid penalties. If Grosjean had done what Hamilton did there, most folks would be ta...

Re: 2020 Belgian Grand Prix Race Thread
Unless they unpack last year's engine, Belgium proves Monza's straights are going to be the greatest embarrassment for Ferrari. Fans will never have been so grateful to not be there to witness it.

Re: 2020 Spanish Grand Prix Practice and Qualifying Thread
So if everyone has to run the same engine settings all weekend then RB drivers asking to turn the power up will go as well then! Didn't like the pit tinkering with power levels during the race anyway. Will it make a big difference? I guess there's a few ways of looking at this - Merc (and RP/Willia...

https://www.mclarenstore.com/us/en/mclaren-f1-we-race-as-one-team-u-mask/701210840-orange.html I'd been wondering since last week & finding it fascinating comparing the teams with bespoke masks vs. standard surgical masks. I baulked at the cost of the McLaren mask - £35 - but then saw the manufactu...

Re: 2020 Austrian Grand Prix Race Thread
If the safety car is really going to be used every single time a car stops on track (despite them recovering the car before the cars line up proving a VSC would have been fine) we need to find a different solution. We can't continue to allow the races to be corrupted like this. This year I would im...

Re: 2020 Austrian Grand Prix Race Thread
Hamilton cost Albon his first race victory, in all likelihood. But it would be fair to suggest that losing a race you'd led the whole way, with 3 fulls SCs, would have been harsh on Bottas. Winning is one thing, but I'd imagine the satisfaction from winning a less disrupted race would be greater. I...

Re: 2020 Austrian Grand Prix Race Thread
Mercedes gave away Hamilton's 3rd place by not putting him in front of Bottas. Agree, plus if they pit both drivers then Hamilton would have had more pace and the end and I doubt the initial fight with Albon happens. Or perhaps Bottas is playing the long game & slightly backed Lewis towards Norris...

BBC F1 website now also suggesting 2021 rules, already delayed to 2022, are likely to be pushed back 2023.
With McLaren changing engines in 2021 & DAS confirmed as banned, any regulations limiting development are only going to come under increasing stress

Re: Official Coronavirus Discussion thread
FIA and F1 still can’t agree in their statements. F1 say the season will start at the end of May, FIA say the start of May. As it happens, they’ll probably both be wrong. Shambolic few days for the pair of them. Looks like the FIA have amended theirs to agree on end of May. Guessing someone at FIA ...

How about they pick one country with the most FIA Grade 1 circuits - or configurations of a circuit - and run as many races as possible there to tide the championship over until some travel can resume. This would eliminate the international travel risk... By my reckoning (according to Wiki) you coul...

Where is the outrage over the illegal MB 2020 race car? MB had to change brake ducts to comply with technical regulations. Now we have factual evidence that MB "cheated". I tend to look at things as not cheating however taking the rule book to the max. In this case RB was able to show and the FIA i...

With McLaren withdrawing does that mean this round won't count towards the Championship? If it goes ahead, no. Brawn said races would be non-championship if a country barred a team. Actually curiosity got the better of me:
FIA Sport Regs 2020:

&
"5.7 An Event may be cancelled if fewer than 12 cars are available for it."

Re: Coronavirus cancellations?
So since McLaren have withdrawn even if the race goes ahead no points will be awarded, is that right? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/51849163 I think the regulations only require a minimum number of entrants, much like a championship only requiring 14 events out of 22 to go ahead. (Though adm...

Basically sounds like they found a smoking gun but can't prove it's been fired. It does question having such ridiculously complex rules that it's to difficult for the sports governing body to prove they have been broken. I can't believe that a case based on probabilities can't be constructed though...

Re: Renault disqualified from Japanese GP!
A pre-configured lap/distance brake bias adjustment system sounds relatively crude to me given distance depends on factors such as line around track and pit stops. I was wondering if the system is actually linked to speed/g-loads so that the bias could automatically adjust differently for high-speed...

Slightly OT, but was watching the Sky pre-qualy show's interview with Kubica - it was the first time I'd seen the reality of his right arm. Really shocked me that it lacked muscle, looked largely limp, and as if he'd have little grip. Really puts into impressive perspective that he can capably drive...

From what I've seen, my belief is that Max is more ruthless & attacking than Charles, so that would make me say Max. But think this will come down to luck - given there is nearly always one dominant team (even if only in terms of performance, not necessarily results), I think it'll come down to that...

I've been surprised reading articles and comments here that no-one seems to have mentioned Belgium in relation to the Leclerc/Vettel debate. So Ferrari denied Leclerc a 3rd win in a row by not swapping the order, or because he no prospect of overtaking. But... he owes a large part of his Belgium win...

Not that any of you care, but just ask the TV Network guys what they think of Singapore, and they will tell you in no uncertain terms. Singapore is a TV nightmare. A 2 hour limit isn't really a problem for TV companies though is it? If they schedule a 3 hour programme, say 30mins build-up + 2hrs ra...
