In what way was Sainz more impressive than Ricciardo getting within 2 seconds of Vettel despite a slower car?

Curious how you could justify leaving the clearly strongest driver out.

Red Bull Ferrari.

Now that this seems very likely, what type of deal do you think there will be? Will Red Bull have access to the full current spec Ferrari engine or an outdated spec, will they have access to the Ferrari fuels and lubrications or forced to use their own (and take that hit in performance). Most import...

I agree. I just don't think teammate battles is a major determining factor. Its not the only factor, but its a fairly major one. Beating another driver when you have a car 1 second per lap faster than them isn't really determining either. Its like Hamilton is beating Alonso and Vettel now, but is h...

What is this time table you have going on? 4 months, 4 years. It seems fairly arbitrary. Senna lost to Prost, then Prost lost to Senna - how do you resolve that? I think our differing opinions on this is directly related to how much relative importance we place on beating a teammate. I didn't downg...

So from the above I would say that they were at the very least fairly reasonably matched. If you ran the Mercedes F1 team the answer is obviously no, as its the F1 team's job to win.

If you ran Mercedes as a car company the answer is maybe, as it would further their brand promotion.

They both have the exact same amount of retirements for mechanical reasons (well Kvyat has one DNS and a DNF). The move likely was 'theoretically' Ricciardo's fault due to positioning, but it was a dumb move by Nico regardless. Daniel was basically off the track and he had nothing to gain by cutting across like that. No sympathy for the guy.

Meaning that Ricciardo and Kvyat were both on the same tyre strategy give or take a lap.
