Re: How do McLaren return to the forefront
The deeper question is; can anyone hope to really challenge Ferrari or Mercedes in this era? They have the ability to holistically design their chassis and engine to work in unison with each other and can withold some of the bells and whistles from their customers' engines. How can a customer hope ...

Re: 2017 Chinese Grand Prix Race Thread
Hamilton did beat Button handily in 2010 to be fair. Lewis has a track record of beating new teammates that come to "his" team: Alonso (I know it was a tie but still...), Kovalainen, Button... Rosberg was arguably better in 2013 although Lewis lost a ton of points with his puncture in Silverstone. ...

Re: 2017 Chinese Grand Prix Race Thread
McLaren used Peugeot for the 1994 season. Perhaps that experience put them off the French. I don't remember why the McLaren underperformed that year, because to my knowledge the Peugeot engine was a pretty good one, since Peugeot had just won Le Mans with it. According to Wikipedia the engine would...

So far, I think Bottas has shown he is about as good as Rosberg really. He qualifid closer to Hamilton in Austrilia than Rosberg ever managed. Then in the race, although Hamilton was a little unlucky, Bottas at one point was clearly a lot faster for quite some time. That wasn't bad at all for his f...

McLaren should get rid of Honda ASAP, I'd like to see a Renault engine in those McLarens. In all these years, it's quite funny that McLaren has never contracted Renault to supply their engines. As for the race... Vettel made the most out of the bad situation he was put in due to things out of his control, while Hamilton had it all too easy when the safety car came out. Verstappen not sounding like a future champion. I think he's not champion material right now, but he's one of the best prospects on the grid. I'm not saying he would have done, though. I'm simply responding to your claim at the time it was made when you were making out that Lewis was outclassing the Ferraris. I agree with that. Provided Bottas continues to perform solidly, I think Merc will settle in with their driver line-up for a few years (possibly until Hamilton leaves or retires). Even though Vettel's contract is up at the end of the season, I don't think he'll want to go anywhere now that the car ...

The point I'm making is that you can't conclude that one car is faster based on this session. It's a 100% sound point. You seem to want to conclude that the Mercedes is faster and that is a point that simply isn't yet properly supported. You wouldn't have to conclude that Vettel and Bottas are the ...

I mean, Bottas has always been a very strong qualifier, relative to Massa. While last year Vettel got out qualified by Raikkonen... I mock Honda a lot, but I'm sad to see them in F1 now. The company that won five straight WDCs before 1992 with Williams and McLaren, now going through a terrible slump. In a way, Renault's current form is also disastrous for a company whose engines used to be the most coveted on the grid. The McLar...

If banter is the best these Americans have as a suggestion, it's not gonna be a good time for F1. I already don't like the radio after pole laps and race wins, feels so scripted. The active suspension predated Newey's time with the team, but Newey designed the cars around the active suspension anyway, so it doesn't make much difference. I'd rather have older Ferrari than newer Honda if I were Sauber. Sadly, another step closer to bankrupcy. In all seriousness, it's so sad to see what has become of that company. The stewarding is already so lax people get away with blatantly breaking the rules. The last thing we need is more of that. So? It's lax, but only for certain people. A good start would be more lax stewarding. This would favor bullies like Hamilton and Verstappen, but would also force everyone to be more aggressive. And you don't have to change a thing in the cars.

This is partly unrelated, but the people who make these kinds of videos are the same who believe that the turbo era of the 80s was the greatest in F1 history, which naturally would extend to the sound. However, the reason why we fantasize about that era is largely related to driver skill, because we...

I guess we can pretty much all agree that all DRS did was NASCARize F1. If you want a million overtakes per race, look no further than oval racing. In circuit racing, overtakes have to be rare because most tracks have only a couple overtaking points. While overtakes in NASCAR and IndyCar oval racing...

The lap is faster but IMO the flow of the track will be worse, because all they did was to move the Rettifilio after the Curva Grande rather than before. The new chicane is faster than the Rettifilio, but this will make the run to the della Roggia chicane much slower. However, it'll require more ski...

tbh, I don't think the majority of fans really care what's behind the scenes, within reason. Formula One reached it's ceiling on performance back in the 1980's, and ever since then the regulations are re-written every few years to force it back down when the clever engineers find more performance. Much of the problem with current F1 is due to it staying relevant to road cars, something it cannot move away from anymore.
